Dallas has done a fantastic job providing a safe and beautiful place for us to run, walk and bike in Dallas. Katy Park was super clean, well maintained, bright and beautiful. The trail is wide and easily shared by runners, dog walkers and cyclists. The running path provides 1/4 mile markers and constant signage. If you are looking for a great outdoor walk, run or ride definitely look for Katy Trail

This is a little gem in downtown Dallas. I had a great 18k (12 mile) run starting and ending at City Hall.
The trail itself is lovey, lots of trees, paved, wide enough for all runners, walkers and bikers. Starting on Houston St. close to the American Airline arena, it runs for about 3 miles.
I was looking for a nice place to run in downtown Dallas; I found it😃🏃♂️😉

I was visiting Dallas after 30 years since my last trip and was really positively surprised by some of the changes.
As a European, I love walkable cities but it was NOT my expectation to find something like the Katy Trail in the middle of Dallas. It is SO well cared for walking/cycling trail that it puts some European capital cities to shame!
It takes you through so many lovely parts of the town that we ended up walking up and down it most days of our three day stay. We must've walked the full length at least twice in this time!

Beautiful trail with great shade and beautiful off trails. Love the fact that they have concrete and walking trail separate. There are multiple starting points and majority trails has shaded area. Ton of walkers and dog walkers who really keep the trail clean.

It's a long walk but mostly shaded even in winter. I went from one end, near SMU, to the other end -- downtown. It was great for people and dog watching. There are great stops along the way, too, for resting and looking out over lovely parts of Dallas such as Turtle Creek.

Great paved, multi-&-single use 3 plus mile trail running through & past downtown Dallas. Clean, great plantings alongside, good signage, one path for just walkers, other, wider path for bikers, walkers, runners, pets, et al. Multiple entrances, both legit & carved out. There are a few stop-off places to drink & dine (although they are expensive by virtue of their convenience). It is busy almost any time of day, any time of year. Thankful to have this.

While in Dallas October of 2022, we visited the ICR Discovery Museum. We spent 6 hours there and found the exhibits very interesting and informative. The oceanography film on the planetarium screen was fantastic. We were not bored at any time.
We also visited the Biblical Art Museum and found the art work extremely interesting. Loved the silver pieces of==for the Jewish holiday - goblets, candlesticks, bread trays. The holocaust exhibit was very informative. The Christian art was impressive - especially the cast-copies of Michelangelo's work. We didn't get to hike the Katy Trail but did hike by a lake near our Holiday Inn Express Hotel.

Really nice walking & biking path in Dallas that goes directly downtown. I was expecting a trail but instead got a nice urban path with joggers and buildings everywhere. This is a good walk.

Nice trail in the Turtle Creek / Oak Lawn area -- nicely paved and divided. Great for walkers, runners, and bicyclists. Plenty of people using it so I felt completely safe. Saw plenty of dog walkers as well.

Dallas isn't exactly known for its natural beauty – at least for non-Dallasites unfamiliar with the city – but the Katy Trail is arguably its most successful project to date intended to help change such views. Similar to NYC's High Line, the trail segues along a disused freight-rail line, but in this case for substantially longer (3.5 miles). It traverses directly through many of the city's most lush, densely wooded areas in the Turtle Creek vicinity, including Oak Lawn & the southeast edges of both Highland Park & SMU.
While Dallas is more generally known for its car-centric nature, it's made significant strides in terms of promoting the city's DART light rail system – one of the longest in terms of track length in the U.S., a fact that seems to surprise many – and the Katy Trail both begins & ends proximate to two DART rail stops, both located in areas with a lively live/work/play ethos. Unfortunately there's no way to fully escape Dallas's summertime heat, but the Katy Trail is as good of an outdoor respite as it gets.

Where can you park? I live in Uptown (Cedar Springs and Wycliff) and can’t figure out where to park to get on the trail.

If you check the parking spaces and Trail access next to the cooking supply store Sur la Table and neighboring Weirs furniture store there may be a good spot. Careful not to park in store-only spaces. Google the Sur la Table “Knox” location. There are other access points that could be researched online but I’ve always used this one.

Where would be the best place to park on a weekday morning? Is it best to start the trail on the American Airlines Center end, or the other end? Thanks!

I would like to book a hotel which is walking distance from the trail. Any suggestions?
