What a beautiful place. The details are incredible. It is wonderful that it has been preserved for future generations to enjoy getting a glimpse into the past of Galveston.

Galveston was surprisingly a wonderful location for beautiful architecture. Despite multiple very serious, destructive hurricanes, the community has really maintained these gorgeous old buildings, built when quality of product and artistry in architecture were paramount.
The Moody Mansion is mostly open to the public. We were slightly disappointed that the basement which originally held the working kitchen, was repurposed and off limits, also off limits was the top floor. That said, there was so much to see anyway and it is all kept perfectly. This home was the state of the art of the time with a beautiful conservatory, a dumb waiter in the butler pantry, showers with a hot water heater…. It is amazing to contemplate how life was like this so long ago. There is a small gift shop around back where you enter. There are bathrooms for public use there and in the garage where there are also 3 well-preserved cars. If you enjoy old buildings and seeing how the “better half” lived in the day… you will love the Moody Mansion!

The house was an easy walking tour. We enjoyed the audio tour of each room on the phone. The greeter was great. We spent about an hour there. Neat to see/hear about the history.

This was a nice experience and very educational. The weather was perfect for the visit. There was plenty to see both inside and out. My sister and I had a great time and is worth seeing again.

What a wonderful place to visit! It’s a beautiful well maintained mansion. What made it especially nice were all of the personal touches in other various rooms. All of the furniture was original from when the family lived there, and there was a lot of family history attached to everything. I would highly recommend spending a few hours here. The Moodys were quite a family!

This is an outstanding example of the opulent style of lifestyle that the upper class of the time lived. It is a very well preserved and restored mansion, and is nicely organized for a very interesting tour throughout most of the house. There are several options for touring the premises and we chose to just wander through on our own and read the information as we went. In addition to the main house and family history, there several vehicles on display in the “garage” behind the main house. Very well done - interesting and informative.

We called months in advance to find out if the house was wheelchair friendly. They assured us that they would be able to easily accommodate a wheelchair and a scooter as they had an elevator that could accommodate our needs. When we first arrived, my 90-year-old mother was in a wheelchair, and my 78-year-old wife was on a small scooter. The first words out of their mouths were that there was no way she could bring her scooter into the house because it would not fit into the elevator. They were able to provide a wheelchair for my wife with a staff member to push her.
Within minutes of the beginning of the tour, we saw the "elevator" that they intended to use to bring my mother and wife up to each of the four floors. This elevator was an absolute joke. It was used in the very early 20th century to transport coal and laundry. It was about three feet by two feet. The wheelchair had to be turned sideways once inside the elevator. The woman pusher savagely crammed my 90-year-old mother into this box nearly breaking both of her knees in the process. Then she told my mother not to touch anything so as to not damage the interior of the elevator because she had to put her hands out to avoid having her knees smashed. This woman had no idea what she was doing. Then it was my wife's turn, and the same thing happened.
Once each of them was on the next floor, by the time we caught up to the guide it was time to move to the next floor. It was unbelievable and this woman was nothing but nasty. As we went up in the elevator each time, she got worse. Each room had a raised threshold and this nitwit’s idea of getting a wheelchair over it was to get a running start and push as hard as she could. She nearly dumped each of them forward and out of the chair multiple times. Desperately wanting my mom and wife to survive and for their safety, I finally took over wheelchair duty. This was one of the scariest experiences ever. Needless to say, due to having to take care of them, I never saw or heard a single thing about the house.
Once downstairs and relieved it was over, the woman took over pushing my wife again as I simply could no longer manage both of them. She opened a door, and a wheelchair ramp was inside. She pushed my wife through the door, and she was sent careening down the ramp with no one holding on to her. Thank God I was there to catch her before she hit the brick wall at the bottom.
This house run by this group of people is nothing but dangerous, and I mean seriously dangerous. They should lose their ADA compliance certification and I intend on pursuing that very thing. A copy of this review and a complaint is being filed with the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, and the Galveston County Daily News.
The takeaway is this: My mother and wife were scared to death in that elevator. If that house had caught fire, they would not have been able to rescue either of them. If you are at all claustrophobic, then definitely forget it. If you are in a wheelchair or on a scooter, for your own safety do not go there. You may not survive.
After reading all the "Poor" and "Terrible" reviews I will be happy to let the cat out of the bag. The name of the elderly woman that is so often referred to is VIOLET. She is nothing but a nasty, mean, old hag.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Moody Mansion today. Adult entry was $15 per person and included a small car collection.
You could tell that a few generations of the same family really loved this house.
One downside….the audio tour is available by clicking on a QR code. Sadly a few senior people didn’t quite understand that they should keep the volume on their phones low. A hand held, wand type of audio guide would have made the self guided tour more pleasant. The audio guide was very good and often narrated by a living relative of the Moody family.
We stayed just over an hour.

There is a one person elevator. Worked for my friend. Request assistance at the ticket sales.

Hi, do you have to take the audio tour, or can you just look around? Thank you.

When we went we were handed the audio Tour because that was part of the admission price but by no means do you have to listen to it but is very informative

Is the Moody Mansion ADA compliant? My mother has a walker and we would like to tour next month.

I do not believe that it is. It is basically in it's original condition and I do not remember any ramps or such for a wheelchair and it is multi-story.

Sorry - I didn't see that. Doesn't sound right - there's no stables or anything like that on the grounds of Moody Mansion that I saw.

We were told in September by our guide that they would be up until the first day of Mardis Gras when there would be a big party with free food and drinks--the only day of the year that you can see the mansion decorated for Christmas for free! You may want to call to confirm.
