This is a little known gem in Granbury. The volunteer that was there was very knowledgible and told us many facts about the railroad in Granbury

We didn't expect much from such a small building but we were pleasantly surprised. Judy led us around the structure with a personal touch. She pointed out the various relics, artifacts and other parts of the depot. Very interesting indeed. The depot was constructed originally in 1914 and many parts of the building are still original.
There is also a room (the old freight holding area) that now houses hundreds of documents, books, files and other data related to the history of Granbury. Amazingly, all of these important records were slated to be tossed into the dumpster by an over zealous courthouse employee back in the 1970s. Fortunately, some records were rescued for posterity.
Do not pass up the opportunity to visit with Judy and learn the real stories of early 20th century Granbury. Lots of parking and very easy to get there from the town square.

So much to learn! Don’t miss this! Two of us were retired teachers, and we learned so much! The guide, Judy, was so friendly and she knew her history! Easy to find and easy to park. Call to get the hours they’re open.

Had to stop in, being RR fans. The wonderful lady that guided us through everything was super knowledgable on all the history of the railroad and town/county history. Lots of neat memorabilia that has been gathered and donated to the museum. It is free, but please leave a donation.

We were very fortunate to visit to old jail and find a docent willing to drive us there and give us a tour. As museums go there isn’t a lot to see but it really is nice to take a step back in time. One can sit in the old depot waiting area and imagine sitting in an un-air conditioned room during a hot Texas summer waiting for your train to arrive in anticipation of a shopping trip in Fort Worth. It’s as if the Depot was stuck in time. There are a few neat artifacts to look at. One room is full of archived papers that are actively used for research. Things like land grants. If you are in Granbury it’s worth a 30 minute visit. Don’t forget to leave a donation to help keep this going. It is entirely funded through donations that are hard to come by. And no. I am not connected to the Museum. Just grateful for the preservation of a little railroad history.

The 'young' ladies running this are great - so many amazing stories about the town, residents, and history. They were happy to give us a private tour, let my son try on the conductors hat and see how they used to passed messages, as well as show us the town archives. If you have history nerds, you'll love hearing about the culture and changing times of Granbury and the little railroad depot. Warning - no A/C, so you might wait until it's NOT almost 100degrees. Great way to spend a half hour. Take a donation to help them stay running!

The 1913 Granbury Depot and Museum is a nice example of typical small town train depot. It is located a couple of blocks off the square. There are a few display cases of railroad memorabilia, like lanterns, time cards, and uniforms, but I think the main attraction here is the Hood County Archives. This is a good place to research Hood County history and family records. Worth a brief stop while you are visiting the historic courthouse square. Recommended for railroad history buffs and Hood County historians.

drive by and see it and then go. its very original and fun to see but its a 5 minute attraction. close to the square . do the square and the jail with the railroad museum. overall a good time.
