Had a brilliant time, it was very informative and entertaining with our guide Mark the Mole. He makes moving around under ground look so easy. Will be back again, for a third visit.

Our guide Tim was amazing!! 2 hours well spent. A must when you visit..children loved the tour. Do not hesitate to book! Cannot recommend enough!

I hesitated in booking due to the price, but this was soon justified when we met our guide "Moley". What a character. We instantly warmed to him and his attitude and knowledge was fab. Our tour through the mine was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. It was great fun from start to finish. Be warned though, it really is cold so wrap up, wear waterproofs and gloves and there's nothing not to like. Thanks Moley!

The best activity in Machynlleth. Our first visit to Wales, all the way from London! Amazing experience. All thanks to Tim! The best guide EVERRRR! Made us laugh, polite, friendly, l knowledgeable. Lovely guy. What an asset to Corris Mine Explorers!

Our family (2 adults & a 10 year-old) had a fantastic time yesterday doing the adventurer experience. Our guide, Mark (aka Moley), was absolutely first class. He was very knowledgeable but most importantly he made the whole experience so much fun. He answered all our questions and took us on a wonderful and insightful journey, taking us back in time, painting a picture of what it must have been like to work in the mine and live in that community. We’ll definitely be back.

From the start Tim our guide was Brilliant. He explained how to use the equipment and we felt safe at all times. His knowledge of the history, mining techniques and geology was truly impressive. I have always wanted to explore a mine and this was a dream come true for me. I strongly recommend this experience. Tim explained what it was like for the Victorian miners. Children from the age of 8 worked here. The caverns by were literally hewn from the rock by hand and black powder blasting. I am in awe of their bravery and hardiness.
I will be back for more next year.

Really can't recommend this enough! Led by a fantastic guide Tim (aka Badger), who was so knowledgeable and encouraged questions, we had a great physical afternoon and learnt loads too. I did find parts a bit challenging but Tim was so great at explaining everything, safety checking and the trickier parts are optional. He also has a cracking sense of humour and really gets the whole group working together. Do opt for the wellies as there are a lot of puddles. I still can't believe I did what I did (no spoilers) but am so proud that I did it. A superb experience!

This was definitely 100% better than we thought it would be and we had high expectations!
Tim is a great guide, very passionate and knowledgeable after 35 years experience in the Corris mine.
It was great to see and experience the way the miners worked all those years ago. We only had our head torchers and were scrambling across tunnels, with massive descents and ascents aided by carabiners and ropes.
Tim shared so much history about the miners working conditions and lifestyle and that was the icing on the cake.
We couldn’t recommend this experience highly enough!

Tim was so knowledgeable. It was an amazing experience and we learned so much. Ask Tim as many questions as you can. I guarantee he’ll be able to answer them and make it so interesting you could listen to him all day! His sense of humour and delivery makes the experience fun. He puts you at ease and helps you break the ice and bond with your fellow miners!
He is the David Bellamy of mines! An all round great guy who really knows how to keep your interest going and aims to give you the best experience according to your level of ability, whether you want a physical challenge or a history lesson, or both!! Wrap up warm, listen and learn, be humbled and have a great day!!

The absolute best mine/quarry experience ever! We booked on to the adventurer experience and due to the small number of people in our group we got to truly explore wherever we wanted to go. The four of us were quite young, so our experience including lots of climbing up and down the slate, but we also got to learn about some of the history behind the "mine". Tim, our guide, was brilliant and answered each and every question we had while providing us with a laugh along the way. I would 100% recommend to anyone, as they really tailor the trip to you!

Yes! The mine is surprisingly large- you only need to duck to enter. Some of the caverns are huge!

Thank you for your interest in Corris Mine Explorers. The minimum age for our Mini Mine Explorer trip is 8 years and for our Maxi Mine Explorer trip it's 10 years.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

I'm sorry but no the tour is not wheelchair accessible. Corris Mine Explorers is in a virtually untouched abandoned slate mine. However, the Corris Craft Centre from where the Corris Mine Explorers visit starts is wheelchair accessible as are the 9 craft studios and the Y Crochan cafe.

Hi there, just curious about the description that says narrow ledges that require you to clip on...how challenging are these? I'm debating between the 1 hour and 2 hour, and most reviews recommend the two but I recently tried a tree top trek that involved clipping on and walking along ledges and was really scared! thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer.

Hi, thank you very much for your enquiry and interest. I work at Corris Mine Explorers and will try to answer your question in detail. All of the "challenging" sections of the Corris Mine Explorers visit are optional. I dislike heights, just like you, but with Mark's guidance and patience I really did feel at ease clipping on and walking along the ledge. But, if you really don't want to do this part of the visit, an optional route is available. Optional routes are available for all of the challenging areas. The 2 hour trip shows you so much more of the old Braich Goch Slate Mine and you get to hear more about the tough working conditions endured by the slate miners. The 1 hour trip, in comparison, is a taster and you enter the mine with a hard hat and a hand torch (not the safety clips).
