Caddo State Park is a peaceful beautiful small park. Although there wasn't much wildlife to watch except for the hundreds of squirrels. We relaxed next to the campfire enjoying the silence. The bald cypress trees are mysterious and unique.

We spent a few hours here when we were passing through. The restored cabins looked awesome. I would have liked to have seen the inside. The park has some pull-through hookups and some back-in. A few full hookups are in the park. Ample tent sites, a fishing pier and canoe rentals were available.

Tremendous park, kayaking, fishing—too bad they ruin the experience with multiple leaf blowers every morning. So loud we can’t even talk, then as they walk off you can still hear leaf blowers echoing in the trees. I think I’ll go back home where I can get some peace and quiet.

Exploring the bayou is an amazing experience. So different from other Texas environments. Nice, easy trails and kayak and canoe rentals are available for exploring the water.
The frog sound at night was crazy and the barred owls, Spanish moss and cypress are just spooky enough to be fun!
The camp sites were clean and generous in size. Showers were hot and also very clean.

Great, little state park. There's no swimming so for me this would be a spring/fall destination only.
There are a couple of short trails perfect for kids. Steep inclines and declines but 100% shaded and lots of stairs and bridges that keep little ones entertained. Not stroller friendly, but those days are FINALLY behind me (hallelujah!).
The real draw here is the canoeing around the bald cypress trees. The park office rents out canoes for anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours. They provide life jackets for everyone on board. There are only two actual seats on the boat but additional kids can sit in the middle. My husband and I each took a boat out with 3 kids on board. As long as no one stands up, the boats feel relatively stable and we paddled all around without feeling remotely at risk of capsizing. Wear a life jacket anyway!
The park offers a variety of sites, but if you're looking at screened shelters and have kids I recommend site 17 for its proximity to the bathroom.
FYI they specifically ask that you not bring firewood from home because of some beetle they're having by trouble with. Apparently they typically provide firewood (donation requested), but when we got there they were all out. The office gave us the ok to purchase local wood, which we did at the country store just down the road. $7.50 a bundle there.
Friendly park staff. Clean bathrooms. On a weekend in late April/early May the park didn't feel crowded at all.
Get yourself out there!

The park is beautiful, especially Mill pond. The campsite I stayed at was very nice with a gravel pad for the tent and water access at the site. The check in process was quick and simple, and the ranger that checked me in was very friendly. The shower facility was also very nice and updated.

Absolutely worth the drive! I’ve been seeing photos of this Texas treasure for a while, and we finally planned an anniversary adventure! Don’t miss a stay in one of the CCC cabins in the park. And don’t miss a tour of the lake!

Beautiful waterlands. truly fascinating to consider how the park was created thanks to the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) - a program funded as part of Roosevelts New Deal Plan. We met a great Park Ranger who provided a wealth of information in a way that framed the entire experience elegantly. thank You for your tile today!

Rented canoes and paddled into a silent and beautiful world. Saw herons, water mocassins (maybe a little scary but cool anyway) The cypress grove and Spanish moss are unique and amazing. Will definitely be back!!!

This park has been on our list for a while now and took a perfect opportunity to visit for 4 nights. Spots are spacious and the park was not busy at all. It was pretty quiet and all the other campers had dogs too. Lots of campfires and hikes down to the bayou. I heard poison Ivy could be a problem but it wasn’t this go round! Definitely recommend this park.

Can I rent a 4-seats canoe or rowing boat?

There are a number of places that offer tours and boat rentals, but you should call the park at (903) 679-3351. They will be able to give you the latest news.

We would love to visit the park, and the lake. Just wondering what the protocols are in dealing with Covid-19, specially for staying in the cabin and canoe rental. Greatly appreciate your response. Thank you.

They have limited capacity so make a reservation by calling (512) 389-8900.
The following restrictions are due to the Covid pandemic:
Face coverings are required inside state buildings, including restrooms.
They are not accepting cash or checks; credit cards only.
Groups larger than 10 people are not allowed, except for families or people living in the same household.
Maintain at least a six-foot distance from people not in your group.
They are not renting equipment, including canoes or paddle boats.
If you have additional questions, give them a call at (512) 389-8920.
Do they have pull thru camping sites for large RV's and if yes, are any available the 2nd week of November?

Hi-- Do you think Caddo Lake is doable for just an overnight trip, coming from Dallas, TX? Looks like it will be about a 3-hour drive from Dallas, and we would only be able to stay one night. Enough time? I'd love to hear what people think. Thanks! nancy

We recently did a 1 day/1night visit and it was perfect. Serenity at its best, and you will long remember the moss draped trees, the birds, and enveloping quiet.

What is security like at the park? I’m thinking of going on a solo camping trip this weekend. I had a few friends that were coming, but weren’t able to make it.

I would think that you will be fine. All vehicles have to stop at station before entering the park and pay the fees. I would assume there are park rangers patrolling the property also.
My friends and I are looking for a quick camping trip and we were thinking of coming here in the next few weeks. We were wondering if it's recommended, we wanted to do some fishing and sight seeing.

I don’t know where you are coming from but if you enjoy the woods. Hiking, fishing and some of the finest Cypress Trees and wading water birds.
This is the place. Not much for shopping or site seeing but breathtaking beauty on Caddo.
