Fabulous skiing resort for beginners and the more advanced skiers. Cafes in the village were good value . Beautiful views and good snow coverage when we went early February. The Follie Auxberge is a must!!!!

I thought of calling this ..."if National Rail ran ski resorts" but thats maybe harsh. However, Les Houches is definitely NOT investing in infrastructure and all lifts etc seem to be on their last legs. There are two lifts up to ski area and one from Bellevue was shut for 2 days out of 4. On the slopes lifts that linked major areas could never be relied on. We had a great trip BUT that was because there was snow, sun and NO people. I pity people there at half term or any peak time it must be HORRIBLE and I would avoid it. The eco-system (including buses) is simply not good enough. I think the local business (cafe, ski hire etc ) were quite annoyed about the unreliability as maybe the reason it was quiet is people go elsewhere where things work....

Some points to note if intending to ski in Les Houches.
This ski area is small and has some lovely blue and red runs.
However, the town itself is pretty grim.Don’t expect many restaurants or apres ski. A good Carrefor is in the town if self catering.
The bus are atrocious,always packed and not enough with a half hour wait. Then, it is lucky if you can get on.
Don’t don’t don’t hire your skis from the Bellevue lift as whilst there , the lift only operated once. So you have to wait again to catch a bus to Prarion lift . Altogether a massive hassle.
When up top scenery is stunning but the lifts are really ancient and shonky . Every day the Kandahar lift broke. If a nervous skier or beginner that meant you could be trapped there. A challenging blue run needs to be made instead to the bottom. To get a lift back up to the top again.
Very little snow making so when warm, many runs turn to grit and gravel.
I have never been to a resort before that needs a complete upgrade.
Will this be a ski resort in 10 years time?

Es una de las mejores estaciones de todo el valle. Tiene mucha variedad de pistas para todos los niveles y unos fuerapistas excelentes, todo ello con unas vistas espectaculares. Los telesillas son viejos y te dejan muy rápido, pudiendo caer. El personal es como si no existiera, así que te dejaran en el suelo o no pararan el telesilla.

It’s our first time skiing here. Beautiful, quaint ski resort. We went at the end of January and unfortunately, there was no fresh snow. The weather was beautiful though.
