A group of family and friends attended a special event at the Whistlepost Brewery and Western Sons Distillery in Pilot Point, Texas. This little town, in northern Denton County, is about 45 minutes-1 hour north of the Dallas-Ft Worth Metro area. Horse farms and small town living, town square and this amazing gem. This is an active brewery with a neighboring distillery that are making great alcohol, Texas style. Kentucky will not be known for bourbon long with this distillery around . And those craft beers.....Texas isn't about stouts or just suds. The brewery really surprises you with some flavors that you would not expect, especially in the middle of cattle country. The bourbons take flavor and tradition and mix them together to create art for your mouth by breaking all of the rules for small batch production with big batch taste. The distillery also features 8 different vodkas that, by flavor alone, say "Texas" more than Big Tex and the Alamo combined! The vodkas are more than just vodkas, they are daring flavors that run from refreshing to soul-warming. Not into beer, vodka, or bourbon?!? No worries, the distillery also has a couple of gin brands as well. These alcohol artisans really do superior work with their pride and sweat equity. Both locations are wonderfully comfortable, very nice taproom, the gift shops teaming with the perfect gifts, the tours are informative and insightful, oh and then there is the product! Texas was almost perfect and having these products made here move us a little closer. If you are a supporter of micros or small batch producers, go to Pilot Point and check these locations out. They often have concerts or special events there that are great places for old friends to catch up over new flavors or with the big screen TVs, maybe catch a college game on a cool afternoon. While two separate businesses technically, they blend better than the bourbon made here. Take a drive and go see what all of the fuss is about, you will be glad you did!

This brewery was very nice. We visited pretty soon after they opened. We had a flight of beer. My husband liked the Rooster. We then went next door to the Western Son. We had some tastings and purchased great prickly pear vodka and the Texas whisky. A band was setting up to play and they were setting out cornhole. Will definitely be back!

We visited the Whistle Post Brewery on a cold rainy day last weekend. The Brewery is owned/operated by the same people/different physical buildings, as the Western Son Distillery.

The Brewery has ample seating inside, with a huge patio area outside. Right next door is the Distillery, with more outside seating and parking.

Quite a few good beers on tap, rotating seasonal's, and a friendly staff. Most were good, with the Bourbon Barrel Milk Stout being the standout winner.

We were there for an ugly sweater contest coupled with a cookie bar of treats. Tours available at several times during the day. A food truck was present, and was serving up good BBQ.

Off the beaten path, next to a set of train tracks. I wouldn't of found this place if not for good friends. I want to come back when the weather is warm, and we can hang outside.
