I read great reviews, so off we went to Poteet. After pulling into a driveway and passing what looked like an abandoned house and old equipment we found the winery. There was a big OPEN sign and another sign with posted hours. There was another piece of paper tacked up with two names and two phone numbers with instructions to call for wine. Door was locked. Since it looked like a place out of a murder movie, we left. Super cool windmill collection was silhouetted against a sky with large, dark clouds gathering. Stopped to take some amazing photos.

The approach farm lane with the windmills is unique and the owner repairs them and is well known in the area. This place looks like a country farm back home in NE Indiana and I felt at home so there was no intimidation that I felt but I could see where some people might be. Well, anyway, everyone was friendly enough and straight forward. From the looks of the winery part it deals a lot in local trade.
It is difficult to rate this place but for me it was OK and we bought strawberries and the vino. To the highly cultured, sensitive urban dweller, I would say to keep an open mind and visit as a couple or smallish group. There is not a lot to do here except taste the vino and buy the vino and enjoy the windmills on the way in/out.

Such a rustic and story filled property. Great wines and lots of local flair and famous Poteet strawberries.

We stopped by the winery while returning from the coast, and were amazed at how interesting the "General Store" feel and the country location are. Jim was super nice, and the wines are definitely unique. The Mustang Grape wines are very refreshing & not overly sweet, and the other wines (Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry) were all great as well. My only regret is that I waited so long to come here!

I went on a drive to Poteet in search of this cute winery posted here on Trip Advisor, to my shock the directions took me on a country road, the winery looked run down with building down. I never went in as it looked very scary from the road.

If you enjoy a nice sweet wine and quiet country drive then this trip is perfect. The winery is small but offers a variety of wines made from locally grown fruits and wild grapes.

We had a great time!
Found the website's write up to be appealing with the country store and farm life. We were staying in San Antonio for the weekend, but the weather was too wet and cold for outdoor activities. We decided to check out the winery and a couple other small stores in the area.
They have a great collection of old windmills on the property, that was an added bonus.
The staff was extremely knowledgeable about his wines, after all he is the one making everything. Great small family operation, very friendly and inviting.
We tried all of the wines, for free! They were very nice (I typically do not favor the sweet wine, but these were great!) We ended up leaving with some bottles for home.
Definitely worth the drive. I know they are gearing up for the big Poteet Strawberry Festival in April, they sell lots of bottles there too.

i loved visiting the winery.. Not only was i able to sample the different wines, and find my favorite, but they have home made candles and its a very neat place to shop...
