While passing through Snyder on our way to New Mexico we stopped for the night in Snyder. I googled the town to learn more about it and saw that it had a statue of a white buffalo located in the courthouse square on 25th st.
Since it was only 2.5 miles from our hotel we stopped to see the statue.
I don’t recall seeing who made it but it is an excellent bronze statue. I am attaching a picture.
The statue commemorates the shooting of a white buffalo in Snyder in 1876 by J. Wright Moore. I am not really a fan of hunting, nor of someone killing a white buffalo when they were so rare and also revered by Indians who were were supposedly present when it was shot. But, I am a fan of art sculptures and found this to be an excellent statue.
The info I found online says it is painted white over the bronze. That may have been true at one time but there is no white on it at the moment.

Love the main exhibit is interesting and represents Snyder well. Gift shop has some wonderful books and items to make a great present for any occasion. They even have some of the writers come speak and autograph the books you purchased there! Wish more people appreciated all the work and tome put into our local museum.

The museum features some interesting things to see and is run by a very nice family. It's quite hard to find, as it's on the campus of a ujniversity.

The Scurry county museum located at Western Texas College is a great place to educate yourself and your children on the Indian history of this area, the local railroad history and the famous white buffalo. The staff are very kind and will assist in any way.

What a nice little museum. Extremely well laid out and such a variety of displays which are changed often. This was my first visit and I would recommend it to anyone. There was such a pleasant atmosphere and the staff is not only knowledgeable but accommodating. So many museums have an attendant that follows you around. Here I was left to browse at my own leisure as long as I wanted.

The 4 of us are sight seeing around Texas and found this Museum in Synder. A little hard to find but well worth the trip. Very interesting and the curator was very helpful and full of information.

A traveler or hometown person will always find something of interest! The hospitality of the staff will make your visit one to remember! The permanent exhibit gives a great overview of local history and there are rotating exhibits in two other galleries! Museum store has items for all!

for the price, (free), this is a no brainer to take the kids too and spend an hour or so learning about the history of snyder. the talking buffalo is fun
