Great place to learn about coastal biology in the area and the research that is being conducted there.

do 2 fish tanks count as aquarium? great info otherwise
2019年9月
had great displays of skulls and skeletons of sea animals, and other displays and info on sea life and 2 fish tanks. i would not consider it an aquarium. it was educational, it was free, so it was great based on that.

Coastal Sea Lab -- A Great Place to Visit
2018年8月
We had a free personal tour by the educator on staff, who showed us how to classify shells. Kids loved touching the sea cucumber and racing the hermit crabs. My highlight was watching the (giant) pink conch moving and feeding. An added bonus was the friendly parking monitor who mentioned we can park just outside the park perimeters and save $10.

Excellent place to learn more about the sea, sealife, and the dunes at both indoor and outdoor exhibits.

This is a great place to learn about the different shells and see some neat things you may not see anywhere else. It is small but I enjoyed it very much and would recommend this to nature and sea life lovers

School Field trip

Love the educational part but the staff members are rude and a bit unorganized need to let school know ahead of time if parents and little siblings are not welcomed

HIDDEN GEM!

This was a treat! You do have to pay $10 to get into the park but the stop here is free. Some sweet workers were there and very nice. Lots of good displays. Worth the trip.

A Hidden Gem
2016年2月 • 夫妻情侣
As a working lab operated by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the Pan American Coastal Studies Lab is a little tough to find. It is located in the park at the south end of the Island and blends into the campgrounds that are a part of the park. There is a daily, 30 day, or annual fee for driving into the area but you can walk in for no charge. Since the pass is good for driving into the county's beach accesses up north, we opted for the 30 day pass. Check the county's web site for the current fee schedule. There is no charge to enter lab, but donations are suggested. The lab is open to the public only in the afternoon Monday through Friday. Group tours can also be arranged.

As others have said, a visit to the lab is most interesting. Whether you are curious about current marine life around the island or its history, the answers are here. View the displays, read the informative placards, and watch videos at your own pace and ask one of the knowledgeable staff members if you want more information.

There are a few souvenirs available for purchase as well as several educational books. We picked up a reasonably priced pair of earrings as a gift as well as a small booklet that later helped us identify the various shells we found in the area.

The final grade? A+
