Hildene - The Lincoln Family Home was a wonderful experience. We were blessed with a beautiful day in Soutthern Vermont. Our visit was very enlightening. It was specifically enlightening to learn what happened to the surviving family of Abraham Lincoln. The Hlidane property is very well maintained and offers a healthy outdoor hiking opportunity, as well as an operating farm. Manchester, Vermont, is a quiant and beautiful community, well worth a visit. Thumbs up!

We visited Hildene on a beautiful summer morning. It is a great way to spend a day in Vermont. There is a welcome center, the Summer House of Robert Todd Lincoln, a dairy farm, a Pullman Car, and lots of trails to walk. There are carts that run every 15 minutes between the areas but it makes for a nice walk which is what we did. The grounds are beautiful with flowers, herbs, and grasses. You learn so much from the docents even though this is a self guided tour.
The Summer Home has so many rooms for the public to view and get a feel for the life of the Lincoln children and grandchildren. A very enjoyable day!

Very good historic house. Organ is not to be missed. Grounds and garden a big plus, with vehicles used to love people between spots. Admission for adult is $23.

Hildene, the summer home of Robert Lincoln, the son of our most famous president is more than an historic gem. Here, you will not only see their mansion, but a train car and farms that alone are worth the visit. One of the rooms in the home is devoted to Abe Lincoln where you can not only see some of his most famous writings, but one of only two original stove top hats. Robert was the CEO of the Pullman train car company where you can walk through an exquisitely preserved car that only the very rich could ride in. The grounds also include a beautiful hilltop garden and two farms (goat and Dene), both worth visiting esp. if you have kids. A tram runs every half hour to get you around the 410 acre property. Plan on spending most of the day here and you will be back at the store buying stuff to help preserve this wonderful site.

A beautiful home and property to learn from in Hildene. It is well run, organized and maintained. From the home to the Pullman to the gardens there was a docent to tell you about the history of the family. It also has some magnificent views. If you are in the area definitely check it out!

This home was the residence of President Abraham Lincoln's son Robert. It is large, beautiful and wonderfully designed. Upon entering, you are greeted hearing his pipe organ play America the Beautiful. Tour was self-guided for individuals and staff were helpful answering questions and directing around the home and estate. The garden is beautiful, and the view of the Vermont Mountains is breathtaking. You can take a shuttle from the Visitors Center if you desire or walk the various parts of the grounds. There was also a goat barn and a Pullman Railroad car on the grounds as Robert Lincoln worked for the Pullman company. The railroad car is quite lavish and there are very few remaining in the US. The gift shop was nice . the only negative experience was the home is not airconditioned and we were there on a 96 degree day. { there were fans but it still was quite warm inside}
I would gladly return to tour again if I am in the area in the future and would recommend this attraction to anyone who likes history and wants to see a gorgeous mansion.

Throughly enjoyed my day at Hildene. The mansion has many interesting artifacts of the Lincoln family. There is a a goat farm on the premises as well as alpacas. Robert Lincoln became the head of Pullman Co so there is also a Pullman car to explore. It is easy to get around either by walking trails or a tram.

We had the most beautiful day to be at Hildene. The weather was spectacular. We loved touring the house and learning more about the Lincoln family and history, in general. The Pullman car was interesting to see and we loved the gorgeous gardens. All the staff was friendly and shared a lot of information. The grounds were clean and well maintained. We spent about 4 hours there. We did a lot of walking but there are trams also. Worth the trip.

The house is lovely and there is a lot of information about Robert Todd Lincoln and the Lincoln descendants. It was very educational and we particularly enjoyed hearing the organ playing in the foyer. The grounds are lovely and the walk to the Pullman car is easy and pretty. We had no idea RTL was so successful with the Pullman company and to have the fancy train car for viewing was really neat to see. The goat dairy is fun to see, especially as we were there when the baby goats were starting to be born.

It was an ok 30 minute tour of this huge house. Good history to learn.
No pets allowed, not even on the property.
Otherwise, it was nice

Is it necessary to take a guided tour or can you tour on your own? And should tickets be purchased in advance?
撰写日期:2019年11月2日
No - we walked around the house on our own because we had a 6 year old with us. The docent gave brief explanations.

Can I bring a service dog in a carrier to tour the gardens, only?
撰写日期:2019年8月26日
In most places service dogs are permitted. However Emotional support animals are not allowed in most places.
It is always best to call the place you are going to, to confirm!

I so appreciate your comment about the Abraham Lincoln focus. It's totally inappropriate and out-of-place. If the exhibit was dedicated to the relationship between Robert and his father, that would make sense, but not a specific focus on Abe.
撰写日期:2019年7月14日
The photos like any old family are not crisp like today. Just family photos grouped on a table. The house is 99% about Robert & not his father.

Hi,
You can walk as much as you like or ride part way. Once the tram drops you at the farm along a lower paved road (after the ride down some switchbacks on the mountain), you are on your own to walk around there to see the cows, alpacas, chickens, pigs, etc. It's a lovely departure from the rest of the estate. The tram picks you up at regular intervals, and you can ask the driver for particulars.
It's the same for the rest of the tour...ride, walk, or both. The Pullman train car is an easy short walk to the gift shop.
Hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did.

We planned a whole itinerary around this gorgeous property and included the tour behind the scenes (that costs a bit extra but is well worth it. You are welcome to use our itinerary below, though you likely won't need one this detailed! In fact we made a few changes as there were 3 or 4 downpours while we were there! We certainly welcomed a hot cup of cocoa in the gift shop (think it was only $1.00).
Approx. Schedule
~9:30 A.M. Arrive at Hildene.
10:00 am Hop tram *or walk* to Dene Farm.
10:30–11:00 Return to Welcome Ctr.
10:45–11:15 Hop tram *or walk* to Pullman car.
~11:30 A.M. Hop tram *or walk* to Goat dairy.
~12:30 P.M. Hop tram *or walk* to Lincoln home.
~12:45 P.M. Eat Picnic lunch.
~1:30 P.M. Begin tour of Lincoln home.
2:00 P.M. Start guided archives tour.
~3:00 P.M. Return to Welcome Ctr.
~3:30 P.M. Leave for home.
5:30 P.M. Dinner at: The Publyk House (~21 miles south, ~32 minutes) [NOTE: you will need reservations for this restaurant. We enjoyed an excellent dinner there!]

$23 for Adults, pricey but I don’t regret visiting, the goats were a highlight, the train car, the house with the spectacular organ. We visited too late in the year but I imagine the gardens alone would be worth a visit.

Well , since I am applying for a Job at hilden , are there times for visitors come to visit at any time or you have to pay to visit ?
撰写日期:2019年4月9日
Yes, there is a fee to tour the main residence and I believe one other exhibit. However, it appeared you can walk the grounds anytime during operating hours. This is all explained at the main entrance building near the parking lot or on their website. Good luck!
