The museum is very interesting and a nice place to learn about local history during the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum building is so quaint dating to the late 1890's. If you enjoy history, you will enjoy stopping by this museum and learning about the early watermen of Colonial Beach. The Oyster Wars exhibit was fascinating!

Lots of Colonial Beach and Potomac River memorabilia and history. Local arts on display. Free admission, but donations welcomed.

First time to the museum and enjoyed it. There is a new waterman's room in rear that was pretty impressive. Local oyster war history was included and at the time, an original oysterman from the wars was visiting the museum with his wife. We got to speak with him regarding the exhibit and the role he played in it. Neat experience!

The Museum at Colonial Beach is open in season (April through Dec.) on weekend afternoons and on Second Fridays during the town art walk. The museum building is thought to be the oldest commercial building remaining in Colonial Beach. It was acquired for a museum in the late 1990s. The building dates from the 1880s - when the town was incorporated. It is unique because it was a building that housed one of the first schools, doctor's offices, a clothing store, the telephone company, the propane gas company, and an antique store just before becoming a museum - it was never a building for summer visitors. Inside you can watch a video and see an exhibit about the history of the watermen who have lived and worked from Colonial Beach for well over 100 years.

So much has happened in Colonial Beach, from Captain John Smith's exploration of the area to the birth of two U.S. Presidents, the Oyster Wars and more. The Museum at Colonial Beach gives a great glimpse as to what life was like back then, and how the town got started. Although small, it is packed with pictures and artifacts of days gone by, like slot machines from the giant casinos on the boardwalk, and old hotel registers. The folks here are friendly and knowledgeable and this is a definite recommended stop when you visit the town.
