ДУмаю очень понравится всем любителям оружия. Место интересное и довольно специфическое, так как само оружие не очень люблю, но один раз посетить можно.

I was truly wowed by the types of weapons used and the length of rifles/swords used in the 1600 - 1700 era. NRA changes out weapons displayed every 3rd or 4th month. So if you visit the museum 2 - 3 times a year you will see the changes in each show case. ENJOY, ITS AN AWESOME MUSEUM and it is open Sun - Sat 9:30 AM - 5:00 AM. Also, if you are hungry they have a cafeteria with reasonable prices. Semper Fi,

The museum itself is free in an area that charges for pretty much anything. Even if you aren't a gum enthusiast, there is quite a bit of history and art on the firearms to appreciate. Unfortunately, the computer system was down, so all of the "interpretive data" was unavailable. It would have made this experience so much better for the non-gun enthusiasts. IT is also important to note that the small restaurant is only open Mon-Fri. You can easily spend 2-3 hours in there and not see it all, but only if you are with those who are just as enthusiastic about guns as you are.

Had lunch there with a friend several months ago. Forgot what I ate, but remember being very pleased with the quality, taste, and price.

We have driven by the NRA headquarters for years and never really had given it much thought. We were looking for something to do this past weekend and decided to visit their museum. None of our group are big gun fans especially.
The quantity of firearms on display is amazing. And the range of history covered is excellent from the American Revolution to the Civil War to both World Wars.
Additionally there are display of exotic hunting guns plus there were a slew of weapons used in blockbuster movies (our favorite area).
The displays are all well lit and labeled plus brief informational details on each display are shown.

Amazing collections on hand from Petersen to Heston, hunting weapons of Presidents and confiscated arms of Axis officers from the highest ranks. A 500 year timeline documenting the milestones of the oldest firearms manufacturer in the world, to tearing up while standing in front of a display of two dozen weapons with the knowledge that these were in fact used in securing this nation’s freedom. The very freedom that is being eroded from the inside out from the highest levels of government, and increasing coming under fire for nearly a century.
If you care at all about this nation and take an interest in your kids education, I highly recommend a visit to this museum where you can actually read, and follow the actual process in which the Second Amendment was birthed to its full adoption. Then see the Truth for yourself, and how twisted its interpretation has become.

Even if you are not interested in guns you will probably still enjoy this museum. I was amazed at the sheer number and variety of guns displayed in a historical manner. Best of all - it was free, although you might consider making a donation. I went there on a Sunday morning and there were maybe a half dozen others in the museum.

I had been interested in seeing this, so I planned on visiting when going through Northern Virginia (NoVa). It is co-located at the NRA National Headquarters, and is one of three gun museums owned by the NRA, the others being in New Mexico and Missouri.
Admission is free, and for all ages. Here you will find a collection of millions of dollars worth of guns dating back to the earliest times of firearms all the way to modern firearms like we use today. If you want to see the matchlock carried by John Alden aboard the Mayflower on its historic 1620 voyage to Plymouth Rock, wheellocks, flintlocks, percussion caps, muskets, Gatling guns, cannon, machine guns, rifles, carbines, derringers, shotguns, revolvers, pistols, they're all here. There's emphasis on the Colts and Winchesters that won the West, and guns from every major American conflict, from the Revolution on forward, some of them featured in historic dioramas depicting their use by combatants. Modern firearms are also here, and there is a special section for "Hollywood guns," the actual guns that were used in making movies and TV shows by John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, Tom Selleck, Sylvester Stallone and other famous actors. There's also a display of weapons from old-time show people like Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody. The guns are nicely displayed in either full-view floor-standing glass cases or recessed exhibition windows in the walls, and everything is clearly labeled and annotated for history buffs to see. Some of the fine engraved pieces have magnifying glasses mounted in front of them to enable seeing the intricate detail. Take your time in here, there's no pressure. There's a docent you can chat up and ask questions, but he's not pushy or hovering.
Also housed in the building is a gift shop—get your NRA t-shirts and logowear here—and the NRA Cafe which opens for lunch at 11:30. There's also an indoor range, closed Tuesdays. If you have even a remote interest in guns, this is a must-see, and it won't cost you a dime.

If you have never been there, it's worth the visit. The immense amount of firearms of different calibers, periods in history and ornate design is incredible. You can easily spend 2-3 hours in there and not know it.

I would recommend calling the headquarters for best directions as it is outside of DC in Fairfax, VA and I am not sure there is a close Metro station: (703) 267-1600. They should be able to assist you best.
Area you open on MLK day

The National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, VA is open on MLK Day. We also have two other NRA Museums - the National Sporting Arms Museum in Springfield, MO is also open on MLK Day, but the Frank Brownell Museum of the Southwest at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM is closed on MLK Day.

I live in the UK and would love to visit the museum. Are there possibilities to shoot in the area as well? What else is there to do in the area to make say a weeks trip from the UK more attractive to my non shooting wife?

Hi! The NRA has a shooting range on site, but please note they do not rent guns to visitors - shooters must bring their own. However, there are ranges in the surrounding area that do rent guns.
We are very close to Washington, DC, which has a number of Smithsonian museums, all of which are free. You could easily spend a week exploring the Smithsonian museums and the monuments.
Am I allowed to open carry in the museum ?

Yes, you may open carry in the museum. You may also conceal carry in the museum as long as it is legal for you to do so in the state of Virginia.

Is there public transportation close to the museum, is an Orange Line station nearby?

The Orange line ends at Vienna metro station. Need to take the bus as described by other responders. Or you can taxi from the Vienna Station for about $20 one way.
