Studio 107 is often overlooked in the Uptown Martinsville location. The storefront houses some items from artists but it is not enough to 'catch the eye' when driving by. The establishment boasts the label 'art studio' but a local 'booth' atmosphere should be expected by patrons.
After a reminder from a friend that the studio would be a great place to shop for a unique gift, I headed Uptown to discover what the artisans had to offer. I was greeted by the gentleman whose art was on display in his booth. Then I was 'on my own' because most artisans are NOT present to discuss their work.
The woodworking booth was large and boasted several informational displays, so browsing this area was self-guided but easy to do.
There was a booth from a local photographer set up to take family photos right in the middle of the mix. A booth displayed Avon products. The back of the building is completely empty - so the booths only take up 3/4 of the bldg space. Somehow I expected 'more' when hearing the word studio.
The busiest area was the stained glass exhibit. Well....exhibit is probably a generous word. There were ladies actively buzzing about and tables for classes in stained glass. One of the ladies (the Chicks) let me know there are open classes for all levels of stained glass learning. A lesser known fact since I had not heard this before.
Everyone is kind and gracious in Studio 107. I would love to see more advertising about the artists. Did I end up buying anything? No - the choices were limited for what I was expecting from a studio.

There are a lot of local crafters showcasing their talents here. They also give back to the community by having the local middle school art students come learn new and exciting art mediums.

This is a wonderful place to browse and talk with the artists, all were very friendly and giving of advice (secrets ) of how they did their craft. Worth a second and third trip.

We have had several creations from Studio 107. I absolutely can't say enough good things about them. We had a custom glass window made for our church and the "4 Glassy Chicks" created something that totally went above any expectation. I'll never forget their kindness and how accommodating they were. Wonderful job ladies!

I stopped in this "Shop" to discover it was an artists studio where you can actually watch the artists at work. Here you will find very friendly people who are eager to share with you the process for creating everything from a jewelry designer to a man who turns wood to create both decorative pieces to functional items from wood. We visited with the silver smith/ jewelry designed at length not only about the Studio but shared some info about the city. Time spent here was worth it. Convient parking just across the street.

This is a good gallery to visit as a local or a tourist. There is a collection of artists there that work in all kinds of different mediums and their work is offered at very reasonable rates, so it's also a good place to get a more meaningful souvenir than you'd get in a souvenir shop.

It is very interesting to watch the artisans and to see their creations. "Jeweler's Edge" does custom designed jewelry. There are booths specializing in watercolor paintings, wood turning, and fabric.

My very favorite artisan booth is "Wood Turning by Terry Mitchell". During the week you will find Terry hard at work creating absolute masterpieces from tree knots, exotic woods and other aberrations found in nature. Make sure you look at all the awards he has won for his talent. Somehow he even manages to find time to teach turning classes at the local artisan school that is sponsored by PHCC.
There are numerous other artisan booths and I recommend that you take your time and enjoy visiting them all.
