Really nice small museum. Dino fans will definitely appreciate it. Pleasant staff. Small but nice gift shop. Recommended for all ages.

Contour map sand was the best hands on activity. Biggest down side only having a small play area for smaller kids. Good place to spend 1-2 hours.

I had a nice time visiting this three floor museum. the first floor had most of the exhibits along with a small gift shop. since I was here with some covid restrictions still in place the theaters were not open.

I traveled 5 hours and spent the night in Martinsville to attend the Dragon Festival at the museum. They did not disappoint. We had a fabulous time. The exhibit was a success. Everyone was friendly and attentive. My six year old grandson loves everything dragon and they made him feel like he was in a fantasy wotld all his own. Great place.

Our community is lucky to have a state museum in Martinsville. The museum offers monthly science discussions (except during the summer), various festivals, and workshops and tours. The collections are amazing! My friend’s daughter was fascinated by the leaf cutter ants. I was too! There are dinosaurs, butterflies and moths, beetles, and ants (not all alive) on display. Educators have children’s programs there. The VMNH offers so many fascinating things for all ages.

We recently attended Dino Festival at VMNH with our 4 year old grandson and he absolutely loved it. Of course, it was fun for the older folks also. It's always an enjoyable experience (visiting the museum), and special events make it even more so. I would recommend visiting especially if you have little dino-lovers or mini-scientists in your family.

Full disclosure, one of the museum staffers is a friend.
Still, it's a lovely museum with a good collection and is well worth a visit. We had the benefit a behind the scenes tour and I loved visiting the labs and learning about the ongoing research. There are some gifted people working at the museum and some of that is very obvious in the quality of the exhibits. Go find out for yourself.
I'm looking forward to visiting again. Not only to visit with our friend again but to spend more time with the exhibits.

Our family visited this past weekend for the Reptile Festival, and we were NOT disappointed. From snakes, to lizards, to spiders and leafcutter ants, we saw it ALL! The museum staff and volunteers answered every one of our curious learners' questions (and there were 6 of them, and 11 of us!). We truly enjoyed every single moment in this museum. The exhibits were nicely laid out, and taught us a variety of interesting things about the state we live in, and the mammals, reptiles and insects we live alongside.

Individual Rates are $7 per adult (ages 19-59), and $5 for children and youth (ages 3-18), seniors (60+) and college students. Children under 3 are free.
Our family bought a 4-pack on Groupon for $16, and it came with a $10 gift certificate to their gift shop. We had the best time!
