Excellent cycle path

This was a great way to cycle getting to different towns. It was a bit rough in places but nice and quiet. Great that there was no traffic and just a few bikes and people walking.

Schöne Strecke abseits der Straßen

Wir haben die Via Verda für eine Fahrradtour zum geocachen genutzt. Es geht etwas bergauf bzw. bergab und ist steinig, lässt sich aber gut fahren

Mysig cykelutflykt

Rekommenderas att cykla! Fin sträckning, vi hade mountainbikes och cyklade mellan Cala Millor och Árta, vilket passade bra. Ta med mycket vatten om det är varmt.

Well worth going in search of.......

Prior to our holiday to Majorca I planned a bike ride using Strava heatmaps. My route took me from Cala Millor to Porto Christo then inland to Son Carrio. It was at this point that I discovered the Via Verde, what appeared to be an undiscovered trail along a former railway trackbed. A lovely off road cycle ride, suitable for hybrid or a mountain bike. The surface is a little loose for road bikes. My only regret is not planning for more of my route on the trail and less on the road.

Excellent Ride

Cycled from Cala Millor to Arta on a hired bike. Via Verde runs along a old railway track. It consists of mainly flat sections with gentle climbs/descents. Track is compacted gravel with loose in patches. This surface can be slippery in patches where there is loose gravel so be aware. I would also be wary of travelling any distance without a spare inner tube as if you get a puncture it could be quite a walk before you get to a suitable spot to be picked up. A mountain or trekking bike is also a must. This path Is not made for city or road bikes. Take a ride along it and enjoy the scenery.

We went here with the bikes we rented and it was amazing. Lovely way to spend a day, we cycled here in March so it wasn't too hot, not sure if I would do the same thing in summer days but I do recommend it in Spring. Hope I'll be back!!

A very easy walk

To quote from the official web-site “The Manacor-Artà Greenway follows the path of the railway that used to serve the easternmost part of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. The result is a new, easy and safe trail that runs through the interior of the island, where traditional crop fields alternate with Mediterranean forest on the hills that the old railway line...”

We walked from Manacor to Sant Llorenç about 8km and throughly enjoyed the countryside views with a short diversion to the Roman ruins of Son Pareto which were about half way on our journey.

It’s a very flat and easy walk, and Sant Llorenç is a lovely little town to wander through, with very little to show of the devastation the town suffered in the storms and floods of 2018.

Landschaftlich schöner Wander- und Fahrradweg - nicht Rennrad geeignet!

Die alte Bahnlinie dient heute als ein landschaftlich sehr schöner Wander- und Fahrradweg. Aufgrund des vielen (groben) Schotters ist er jedoch nicht für Rennräder geeignet.
Es gibt viele Rastplätze mit Bänken, Fahrradständern und Möglichkeiten sich vor der Sonne etwas unterzustellen.
Die Bahnhöfe sind liebevoll restauriert.
Es bieten sich herrliche Ausblicke bis auf das Meer.
Und wir haben eine Mini-Schildkröte entdeckt, die mitten auf dem Weg lag. Also... Immer schön die Augen auf!
