On the 29th ot August a production Cinderalla was put on all the little girls attending came dressed in their pretty dresses ,lovely which is more than could be said for the production that was put on. Normally there is involvement with the audience with this production, and this is what they were expecting, was there any none at all , by the interval the children were bored. The actors if you could call them that were not even dressed in nice outfits and there was no interaction with the children at all. Then the raffle a box of chocolates and 2 bottles of wine and for the “children nothing “ What a disappointment, but money was obviously made on the raffle . I hope everyone reads this and gives productions a Capel Manor a wide berth . Thegardens maybe pleasant but if this is the standard of productions that they put on “DONT BOTHER” A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY .

Good. Some parts are a bit overgrown. The place is clean and pretty tidy. There is a lot to look at with gardens, area of animals and a café. The café food was good. There are a lot of different gardens with some interesting designs. Overall good.

The gardens are really badly maintained and a terrible advert for a horticultural college. Most of them are so overgrown you can't really see the shapes of the gardens any more. Lots of pruning, deadheading and weeding to do. It looks like no one has tended to them for 3 years and they have just become overgrown.
The canteen is really just that except the hot counters were out of order today. You could buy a miniscule scone with a 50 p sized pot of cream though for £4.65. There is only self service tea and coffee.
The animal enclosures looked quite small and really difficult to see through into the glass areas where the terrapins and reptiles were.
All in all it is probably worth a £2 entrance fee and not the £8 each we paid

We don't know how much the students are involved in the design and execution of these gardens, but it is certainly worth a visit! Like all good gardens, there are various "rooms" and the scale means that you can get some good ideas for your own garden, too, with some gardens deliberately aimed at that market.
With 30 acres in total, a restaurant serving hot and cold food, along with a gift shop selling various things as well as plants, you could easily spend a long time looking around and getting ideas.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day. We were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do and see, and the Alpaca walk was amazing - very enjoyable & informative. The gardens were amazing, such an incredible variety and range of plants on view. The 2 workers on reception on Saturday (30/4) were also very helpful and professional.

A delightful, relaxing, beautiful place superbly maintained with a huge number of things to see and enjoy and get involved in. The fact it’s one of Britain’s top horticulture colleges adds much to the atmosphere, friendliness and interest.

Capel Manor gardens & land are truly beautiful to visit. Sad to say the Easter egg trail isn’t!….It certainly wasn’t designed for children…There is actually no trail to follow & giant eggs are placed in very obscure places for children…including one in the maze…Not well thought out. The maze isn’t wide enough for a double buggy or pram or wheelchair…Very disappointing & not worth £5 per child over 3yrs of age…Have to say we gave up in the end & just enjoyed the gardens & animals…Spoke to other parents & they too were fed up with looking.

Just back from Capel Manor. Went donkeys years ago didn't remember any of it. I looked on here yesterday and there was some poor reviews. What are they talking about. We loved it. Lots of different garden settings, plus a zoo with meerkats, alpacas, scottish wild cats, snake, terrapins, wallabies, parrots goats, lion head rabbits...so cute and more. Lake a maze, loads of toilets, a restaurant and more seats than I have ever seen in a place like that. All this for £6 for seniors with free parking.

I went here earlier this month. It’s probably the wrong sort of season to go along as areas of the place are looking a little jaded and in need of sprucing up i.e. some of the little themed gardens on the way in.
I still enjoyed walking round my favourite places here through which are the old Manor House garden, the walled garden and the lake areas. I did enjoy the snack that I had from their cafe area and also had a wander round their little zoo area.
It’s still a place that is worth going to if you are in the vicinity, but it needs a bit of a refresh in some places to bring it back up to scratch.

Winter Wonderland - simply lovely! Father Christmas was excellent, my grandson was bowled over! And the gardens had an elf hunt, so the children could win a chocolate! Highly recommend

Is there a WW2 bomb shelter in the gardens? I read somewhere that there is, thanks for any help.

I wondered if u were part of Friends of the earth's national bee count. I have been sending them sightings and was thrilled to see so many bees in your poppy section and elsewhere . I bought your pretty thyme cos of the bees it attracted. Sadly the count ends on Thurs. 30th.
Mum was thrilled with the friendly Robin that followed us into the greenhouse, which was another fab bit of our visit, a coach trip from Springfield allotments, Southend, 40 miles away.
I visited with my 2 sisters and brother. We loved it and will be back with my nephews, nieces and others to see the animals and Which trial gardens which we didn't get round to seeing. Well done

I have never heard of the national bee count but we get loads of bees in our garden in Enfield. They seem to particularly like our large purple flowered Hebe shrub in the front garden but go to lots of the other plants as well.
I'll Google the national bee count to see what it is about.

Hi Paul,
I am the principal at Capel Manor college and we were very concerned with and upset about your comments posted on trip advisor. As you can see we generally attract very good comments and your comments are quite at variance with others visiting at the same time.
I am not sure if you realise that we are a charity and we rely on income from visitors to help us offer education and training to over 2,000 students.
as I am sure you are aware any garden is a living thing and as such has moods and periods when it is being prepared or revitalised.
As it happens I am puzzled by some of your comments. For exam[le there is no record of the Japanese garden being closed since its refurbishment was completed several weeks ago so I would be interested in when you visited and why you thought it was closed (the senior gardener on duty on Sunday 5th and other staff are quite clear that the Japanese garden was open on that day.
There is a programme for dead heading roses where appropriate and we are following this. Also some ramblers climbers and rugosa's are deliberately left as they produce hips which are ornamental in the autumn.
A lot of he gardens are sponsored and also won medals at Chelsea. Your comment re clashing colours is subjective and personal and one of the things we pride ourselves on is our diversity and the fact that everyone seems to find something they like when they visit. We are also surprised about your comment that the gardens are repetitive as this is the exact opposite to the normal comments.
Also we have just experienced a heat wave and that has put strain on the gardens.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to comment and would be happy to meet you sometime to explain more about what we are doing and what we hope to achieve.
best wishes

I have been to Capel Manor. I love it there. I love to walk around the grounds. The colours, the peace and quiet. There are s many interesting things to see. They hold regular event days. The college is renown and the work that goes on behind the scenes tend go unnoticed.

As stated above, I have no idea why the reviewer called Paul made such nasty comments about your lovely gardens. My own review was full of praise for the wonderful work your gardeners do to keep the gardens looking absolutely beautiful.
