Tiree Island requires a long but comfortable ferry journey from Oban. The crossing is also spectacular in itself and can be fully enjoyed from the open deck. On the island there are few accommodation facilities but all very welcoming. You can cycle around and visit the whole coast but also the interior. You can book excursions at sea but also just enjoy silent walks in the very wild nature, watched on sight by the friendly sheep of the island.

Fab short holiday on Tiree, we crammed in loads and learned the Tiree wave on the roads. Friendly, good food, wee shops, horse riding, boat trips, beautiful beaches and fabulous light. Must mention Tiree Equestrian, Yellow Hare, Chocolate and Charms, Becky’s Bakes, Farmhouse Cafe, The Reef, Dot Sim,Tyrii Pottery, The Manual guest house and finally Tiree Gin distillery. Or just relax and seal watch or read a book.

Isle of Tiree. Take all seasonal clothes as the weather changes quickly from warm sunshine with breeze to very cold and windy in one day. Fabulous beaches and stunning scenery. Worth a visit. Also worth a visit to The Reef for evening meal but book first - food excellent and staff hard working and pleasant.

Such a remote and beautiful island. The vernacular Architecture is gorgeous, the scenery spectacular and even the weather was fine.
Lots to do and see.
Local pottery, cafes, pubs and historic villages.
Well worth a visit.
Yellow Hare Cafe at the ferry terminal is a must for the best coffee on the island

Tiree was wonderful - great time even out of season. Do be careful with Welan Hats - very expensive knitted hats that just don't hold up to any weather.

Tiree is a magical place. Pace of life is slower, people are friendly to each other, the beaches are simply stunning and among the best, if not the best in the world. Great destination to recharge and unwind from modern life.

Great beaches and very relaxing if you want it to be or plenty sporty stuff too.
Some lovely places to eat at for coffee and light lunches.
Boat trips if that is your thi
ng to interesting places ie Skerryvore lighthouse.
Would highly recommend Farmhouse cafe for coffee and lunch and gifts and also see their highland cattle, Yellow Hare near pier for drinks, bagels and gifts, There are other equally good places too.
New this year is the Hebridean Roasters for coffee. also the fish shop which does lovely crab sandwiches to take away. Used the chip van too.

An amazing destination for lovers of peace and quiet and nature. I went there as I love the Scottish island and this was one I hadn't visited. The white sand beaches by the turquoise sea (when it was sunny! ;-) ) were stunning. Plenty of walks but don't expect exciting nightlife. The people I met were all friendly and happy to chat.
However, do take clothing for all weather - when I was there I experienced everything from warm sunshine to freezing winds as well as thick fog and a violent thunderstorm!

Lovely beaches and walks here. A well stocked Co op and a telephone box to leave or take any excess non perishable foods. Single track roads everywhere but not busy during our stay. We had sunny days and rainy ones too and most days were windy to very windy so all weather clothing is needed. We stayed at Heanish Cottage right on a lovely beach and it was lovely.

Could I ask what is the best way to obtain food and alcohol on the island for self catering? Also is the food and alcohol expensive?

There is a pretty decent Coop on the island - not particularly large but we found it to be well stocked. We had actually taken most of our food with us - we have a travel fridge for the car - but realised we didn't need to take as much as we did when we realised the choice in the Coop. Good choice of alcohol in the shop - you won't go hungry or thirsty ! It's also worth checking what days they receive fresh stock - then timing your shop once they are freshly restocked after the ferry has been in . Hope this helps it's a fantastic place to visit.
