Three of us set up to play 18 holes and it appeared we were the only three women playing other than one other woman playing in a large group. Before you roll your eyes, we we’re always waiting for the foursome ahead of us as they were waiting for the large group ahead of them. Poor scheduling on the part of the course. They scheduled 17 people in a 30 minute slot. Sadly, by the 5th hole, the Marshal drove up to us to observe. I said hello, he said nothing. Just a grumpy stare. As I teed off, one of my friends advised him that we are waiting at every hole. I was more than pissed that he assumed because we are women we were the problem. Simply said, it’s a Good Ol Boys course, with arrogant old men playing it.
In addition, the front tees are very poorly marked. It’s almost impossible to find them. We drove around several times, wasting time, looking for the tee boxes and still waited to tee off at every hole.
The three of us have played Portmarnock, K Club and Howth. This course doesn’t compare.

Hardest course ever. Very difficult and I'm a 10 handicap! Never again. Staff never told us it was cart path only until we were ready to tee off. Course was impossible! Quit after 14. No refund!

I loved this course. Same designer as Tobacco Road but much more enjoyable in my opinion. Great layout, fun greens and a beautiful clubhouse. Renovation of the clubhouse was underway during our trip. I would come back to play again.

Every hole is an interesting challenge with emphasis on both words! A few holes are especially difficult because the greens are hidden unless you are perfectly positioned off the tee. Fast greens and well-maintained fairways and traps. Pace was very slow for first 15 holes.

April 14, 2022 – Just completed our 7-day golf trip to beautiful Virginia playing Williamsburg National Yorktown and Jamestown Courses, Ford's Colony, Golden Horseshoe Green and Gold courses, The Club at Viniterra finishing at Royal New Kent Golf Club.
Our travel group typically plays 30 to 37 new courses each year in the USA, Canada and Europe. Never have we experienced anything like Royal New Kent Golf Club. The front 9 is unlike anything we have played. Reminiscent of landscapes in Ireland, each hope has its own unique and incredible beauty, with heather and other grasses that boarder pot bunkers and well-guarded bunker greens. Elevation changes on each hole will challenge your club selection and wits as target golf is required here. Rolling greens are generous in size.
The back 9 is uniquely different from the front 9 resembling Irish links. Wider fairways will allow you hit bombs off the tee but be aware target golf on second or third shots is required as rolling greens are undulating, some with high elevation changes so pin seeking shots are required to score well.

This could be my favorite golf course on the planet. I am so glad that management is preserving this Mike Stranz masterpiece. It is visually intimidating but the fairways are wider than what you see. It is a tough course but does not go out of its way to inflict pain. I highly encourage you to enjoy this wonderful golf course.

I have taken golf lessons with Pros all over the United States to include the PGA school in Port St. Luci, Florida trying to improve on my game but without consistency in instruction.
I discovered Bobby Luzzi (the current pro and instructor at Royal New Kent) several years ago and without exception, with his instruction, my game continues to improve. He is one of the best known secrets in our community and if you are in the area and need a lesson I highly recommend you book one with Bobby. You will not regret the time spent.
