Lloyd George...what a great man.

We weren't expecting this small museum to be so packed with interesting historical information charting Lloyd George's life fro his birth to death. We learnt a huge amount..what a shame current politicians can't be like him. The Victorian Garden and his modest burial plot were both well worth seeing.

We really enjoyed the Lloyd George museum. Plenty of artefacts, information including a short (?15 mins) film. Also included the price was a look into his childhood home and a visit to his unusual grave: worth every penny. Knowledgeable and friendly staff too.

We were holidaying with friends who suggested we visit, initially not enthusiastic about going but very glad we did! Full of information and lots of interest. Plenty to look at and read about this great MP and PM. A visit to his childhood house and grave added to the visit we’ll worth going!

We loved it

Fascinating history lesson and great way to spend a few hours. We went with a teenager who luckily was studying Lloyd George’s role in WW1 so was incredibly interested and a 10 year old. The 10 year old struggled to keep interested given all the reading but they really tried with a children’s area. He did enjoy the classroom. I and my 15 year old loved it. I had no idea this man came from such humble beginnings to achieve what he did. The video which we watched at the end, especially his comments at the treaty of Versaille and on his 50th wedding anniversary were so poignant and emotional. Loved it. Staff also lovely too. Thanks for a great few hours. Great to see his home, grave and have a walk down by the river after also. Thank you

Packed with interesting information
One of the very few museums dedicated to former Prime Ministers, this little gem presents a good balance between the personal and the political. Situated in the village where he grew up, and where he is buried, the visitor gets a real sense of the man's roots and his achievements. His gravesite beside the River Dwyfor is five minutes away, and a poignant and understated memorial.

I know what the fuss was all about!
For years, I had only a basic knowledge of Lloyd George but this compact museum really gave so much to think about and want to find out more about thisenigmatic man. The roots of Britain's proud achievements in social well-being seem to really take off with his determination to defend the vulnerable!

Visit September 2019
This is a small museum packed full of information. It is certainly a place where one feels close to the home and town where the great man grew up and returned to. There is also an interesting canter through many world episodes that one forgets about. The staff are very helpful and this place is well worth a couple of hours of your time

Village of the "Welsh Wizard"
Hubby and me visited here on a recent Tuesday afternoon. We last came 2 years ago when they were holding a free open doors event (see that review in 2017 for more detailed info about the museum tour).

Because it was a superb sunny day, we decided to wander around the museum outskirts. In the front garden of the museum, we saw a bronze bust of the Welsh Wizard himself - David Lloyd George (DLG). This was unveiled in 1921 and was created by sculptor Kathleen Scott (1878-1947) who was the wife of the antarctic explorer Captain Robert Scott.

On the main High Street next to the Museum, we saw the frontage of Highgate Cottage (a Grade 2 listed building). It was built with river boulders. It was the boyhood home of DLG between 1864-1880. He lived with his Uncle Richard Lloyd who was a shoemaker/cobbler.

Just up the lane from the bridge, we found the grave of DLG. It is located on the bank of the River Dwyfor. This peaceful woodland site was actually chosen by him. He used to sit on a boulder by the river and contemplate. He died of cancer in 1945 at the age of 82. The grave was designed by Clough Williams-Ellis (a long-standing friend) who was the famous architect of Portmeirion. The poem (in Welsh) on the plaque over the gate is by his nephew, Dr. William George.

Llanystumdwy is a sleepy village steeped in history and well worth a wander around.
