Played here today, 9/19/21. Pro: Nice temperature for summer golf; beautiful greens; friendly staff. Cons: fairway grass over 1” long; blind t shots; lots of Severe slopes on greens; penal green complexes; no views of mountains, you’re playing in tree canyons; rough only 8-10 yards wide, then dense woods; sloped fairways cause t ball to hit fairway then end up in the woods.

Beautiful course at the top of the mountain! Nice views and pleasant weather! Restaurant is great and diverse selection.

If you love playing golf, this is the place to get some rounds in before calling it a day. The grounds are beautifully maintained and always helpful people to get you going in the right direction. A nice change of pace.

The course was not as scenic as they would leave you to believe...maybe one or two vista views...More hype than reality...you would be better off playing Stoney creek course...and it is a little cheaper...

Nice course. Professionally run. Little on the expensive side for a Virginia mountain course but the staff was great!!!! Enjoyed our time, worth every dime.

WE went to dinner last night New Years eve what we thought was one of the better restaurants in Wintergreen in was NOT from the time we sat down till the time we left it started with the waitress asking what we wanted to drink we gave her are order and it came out about 15 minutes later one at a time not good, oh by the way they were not that busy. So now we order we all order soup and a salad another 25 minutes the soup come out it was not good at all, she asked if we wanted are salads we said yes another 20 minutes are wife's get there salads my friend did not get are salads for 20 minutes later but in the mean time are waitress serving the table next to are orders champaine and the bottle goes all over the place and on me my pants and my jacket. I did not get an I'am sorry but what ever. We were not the only ones not happy last night many people walk out there food was over cooked and the service was bad we talked to the person in charge and he would look in to it. Bad Bad Bad DON'T GO THERE WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Visually beautiful course. Course is moderate difficulty. Course has some water hazards, a few target holes across water and benign sand. Club house serves a decent lunch and a full bar to drown your sorrows.

Outstanding staff. We had a couple of people with us who decided they wanted to ride along while we played, so at the last minute we needed an extra golf cart. The staff arranged for the cart, juggled the tee schedule a bit to fit all of us in, an, don't tell anyone, gave us the cart free of charge as a courtesy. The course was challenging and beautiful, in a way only a hill top course can be. There were animals and fowl everywhere adding to the beauty of the setting. After our game we enjoyed drinks and sandwiches at the club house restaurant. It was a great day.

We recently played this course twice in one weekend. While it was in the 90s in the valley, it was only mid- to high 70s at the top of the mountain.
Staff were all friendly, though the starter should have explained the pin position colors and pointed out the restrooms on the card map. The practice area is small but stocked with balls, club holders and pins to aim at. Overall, the course was in great shape, thanks to recent rains - fairways cut to a decent height, greens even and weed free. One red tee box was unusually weedy and not recently mowed, but the rest were fine.
Fairways slope, dip and roll and are narrow. Views here and there are beautiful, as is the course in general (rocks, mature trees, deer). Some of the greens can be hard to read and challenge with false fronts. It's fun for any handicap, but bring lots of old balls!
Be sure to check out the granite hole layout markers by the tees, as the map on the card does not show the couple of creeks or a pond on a few of the holes.

Returned to Wintergreen 6/17 and played both courses. Devils Knob has to be one of the most scenic mountain courses in the East. As other reviewers have noted we found very comfortable temperatures even though the valley was experiencing a heat wave. Conditions were excellent at both. Pro shop and outside staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Being in the golf industry myself I know how difficult it can be to obtain people who will enhance the customers experience, but they have certainly done so. I would highly recommend Wintergreen to anyone looking for a great golf trip.
