moving memorial
2021年6月
Very moving memorial with personal significance for me. The structure itself is beautiful, & we were lucky enough to be able to hear part of a ranger-led discussion of the events of WWII & the memorial. This was a spur of the moment stop, & we were so glad that we did.

Very nice NPS location

The information provided via signage was excellent. The woke information provided by the Ranger was not.

Worth the drive, very moving
2021年8月
Small but beautifully implemented. You get a sense of the deep, deep sadness of the people who were uprooted from their homes, businesses, lives due to the hysteria of wartime and racism.

Worth the drive out, if you walk down from the parking lot and along the path, the panels and woodwork come into view. Also a nice view of the small harbor area at the end of the short pier.

The expression "Nidoto Nai Yoni" - Let it not happen again is still an important message to consider in 2021

Very impressive

Small memorial but the ranger was great and shared a lot of information with us. They have more stuff planned. They recently started the junior ranger program. My kids have done these since they were little and we all enjoy the information in the booklets, this was no different. Sadly this is part of our history I was never taught.

A Quiet place with a story
2021年4月 • 家庭
Not a big place with no artifacts to view but it’s not a museum, just a memorial to remind people what happened. I liked how they provided some follow though on stories and the wood work put into the story panels is impressive. There is some more information on this at the history museum across the water too.

Sad time in History
2020年8月
I expected more from this exhibit, but the only thing that you learn is that the Japanese citizens that lived on Bainbridge Island in 1942 were rounded up like cattle, with only 6 days notice and shipped off from Bainbridge to an internment camp in California. No housing, no artifacts, just this is the place they left from. Like the Nazi's to the Jewish people except we didn't exterminate them. I wonder why weren't the German Americans rounded up too? Could it be as simple as they are white?

Nice memorial! Granddaughter did report on incarceration of Japanese Americans. I like to provide experiences to supplement the information gathered. This experience did just that!

These displays illustrate a dark time in our history that must night be forgotten. Go visit.

The place appears very modest from the parking lot, get out and walk the wall and other displays.

Excellent Presentation, Simple and Touching
2019年11月
I am in the entertainment business, and have worked extensively for both LucasFilm and Disney - two companies focused on story. And this little Memorial has done a excellent job of telling this sad story. It is through the eyes of the families banished, and it spans the tragedy of what happened, what they returned to, and also the hope, resilience, of those people, and the community who welcomed them home. Very much worth a visit. Especially if you have children! There are so many jump off points for discussion about caring, about race, about community, about love, trust, family, nation. Congratulations to everyone involved with this gem of an installation. So well done! By the way it is free!

Small and touching

This small memorial is tucked off road and down by the water's edge where the Japanese Americans were forced to load on boat for transit to the concentration camps in California and Idaho. Worth the time.
