The drive on the loop is gorgeous in late spring. There were parts closed today but that didn't stop us from having a great time. The views of the Stillaguamish River are amazing! You will want a $5 National Forest Service pass if you park anywhere in the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest area.

What a beautiful drive with stunning views and many great campsites. We drove the 14 miles of gravel road (more like a dirt road with not much gravel remaining) in our little Fiat Spider. I wouldn't recommend going on it in a sports car or convertible, but if you go slowly you can navicate the potholes reasonably well. Bring some drinking water and a bite to eat because it is a long haul at slow speeds. Start from the south end since Darrington is a delightful little town to visit if you can find the little main street off the main thoroufare through town.

We have done a lot of exploring west of I-5 but so glad we did the Mountain Loop Highway as an alternate route. This is a gorgeous area of the PNW and one could spend as much time as desired there. If possible, read up on the history of the area before traveling. A word of caution a local gave us, make sure you have the proper pass (NFS?) if you are parking anywhere. Especially in the Ice Cave parking lot. The road does become narrow, windy and gravel for awhile but driving it wasn’t an issue. Not sure how would it would be in rainy season.

One of the full day trips through the mountains which is a loop through the Cascades without having to drive back the same way. Best all day drive with many stops along the way seeing a variety of mountain spots and parks.

We take this loop to Darrinton several times a year. The scenery is beautiful and remote.there are great stops along the way for fishing when open and good camp sites just off road.This is a good day trip to take people from out of state and you see the ice caves along the way

We traveled to Washington from Kansas this past summer. We were pulling our travel trailer. I'm not sure if I'd pull a trailer through the Mountain Loop Highway again. There were a few rough spots on the section that isn't paved. By the time we got to the end of it, the inside of our trailer was trashed. Everything was all over the place. It's definitely a beautiful ride, but wouldn't recommend pulling a trailer. Also didn't see many spots where you could actually park a camper. We mostly saw tent campers throughout the section that isn't paved. But all in all, I'd return back there in a minute, just not with a travel trailer! Washington is beautiful!!

We have a cabin just outside Granite Falls so we visit this area many times each year. The road is paved part of the way and then extends further on a well preserved dirt road for 40+ miles. The Loop highway can be done in a day but there are so many interesting places to visit worth stopping at. The photo here was taken by the Ice Caves. The area is a Hikers Delight and worth many visits if you are staying long.

We have heard about the Steen mountains for years and had never taken the time to go. We thoroughly enjoyed the mountain road and views from the top. We went up early in the morning so had very little traffic. We spent the night before in Burns and made it to Bend late the next afternoon. Great trip.

A very nice but taxing drive through the tall tree forests, often alongside a creek or river. Majestic mountains all around and a warm sunny day combined to make this a great drive for us people from the flatlands of Kansas.

One of the nicest drives in Washington. Paved 30 miles to Barlow pass. After that dirt all the way to darrington. Many views and trail heads. Area filled with mining and logging history.
