Small
2021年6月
I know and expected this to be small based on other people's reviews, but I was still surprised at how small. It is well maintained and the animals look cared for. I did fall around the lemur cage where the sidewalk and the ground next to it were very much not level. I busted my knee on the gravel.

Ignore the haters, this place is a gem!
2020年12月 • 家庭
As someone who has worked at the best zoos in the country, this zoo is doing a fantastic job for being privately owned. Zoos are INCREDIBLY costly, and they have fairly large enclosures. They have a smaller area for the tigers and a large area for them, where they frequently trade the sets of tigers out. The wolf enclosure is bigger than the Woodland Park Zoo exhibit. They are constantly finding ways to expand and educate people. They give cups of fresh food to feed the animals for only a couple bucks. Perfect zoo for sensory sensitive individuals, free parking, very clean, and full of wonderful staff who have made my family's experience truly a magical one.

I feel the need to defend this zoo from a lot of the haters, because they don't have the funding like other zoos. They are very smart about not overreaching their funds, so that they make sure that each animal is given enriching activities, tender care, and a happy home. These are not miserable animals. They are well loved and very happy!

Only note I will say is if you could create a discount for children who are disabled, or low income families, this would make it the perfect place!

Gem of a small zoo
2020年11月
What a little gem of a zoo. We were totally unexpectedly impressed. The enclosures are so modern and state of the art. And immaculate. The animals all looked healthy and had enrichment toys. I encourage everyone to visit and support this lovely little sanctuary.

will not speak of this place to any one.

animals and humans are caged up. I waited 2 weeks before I decided to write a review.
This is a small zoo, (11 acres, started in 1972)and the web site is well done. It shows animals happily frolicking. Great photos. As soon as you approach the entrance you are surrounded by bars and cages. The lonely cougar sits idle in a small area, the bengal tigers are pacing in boredom. The wolves have a single trail made by their nervous walks. The beautiful macaws ( there are many of them ) have no freedom. Even the lucky ones who are in an aviary do not fly. Many of these birds are in cages with plastic toys. There are plenty of statures representing other species. It's clean and the staff is pleasant although most likely over whelmed. The 3 rheas were the only animals who did not see, to mind the tightness of the enclosure.
Not worth the $ 15 dollars entry fee, although the ride to the top of Cougar Mountain was pleasant and the parking is free.
PS: i have visited many zoos in Western Europe and in North-America and this was simply a caged park for birthday parties with a few animals. Sad to have been there.

Cute little zoo for little ones
2020年8月 • 夫妻情侣
The good:
Decided to visit to pass time and support the zoo during quarantine. Masks were enforced and sanitizing stations were placed throughout. It wasn't very crowded so it was easy to social distance.

The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and enthusiastically engaged with the guests.

There are a lot of birds, which were so cute to see and interact a bit with (some of them are former house pets or are rescues, according to one staff member).

The wolves, tigers and other big cats were cool to see relatively closely.

There are a lot of statues which are interesting for kids to look at, even if some of them (like the dinosaur statue?) don't really make sense for the setting.

The not-so-good: I think this zoo is great for kids but it is sort of depressing for adults. The enclosures are all metal cages and wooden fences. Even just a coat of green or brown paint would make it look more natural and like a habitat instead of an enclosure. Also some landscaping or plants would really make the place more enjoyable, instead of just concrete and cages.

The signage could use an update with more information and facts about the animals instead of the weird superlatives with all kinds of typos - some of the signs look really unprofessional. Their really missing out on an opportunity to educate their visitors about the beautiful animals they care for.

Habitats A Little Small
2020年9月
It's a very charming little zoo. The place is clean, well put together, and has COVID measures in place, so that's always a plus. However, some of the habitats were... small. They had some of the birds in good and proper display cages, which was a tad bit disconcerting, honestly. However, from what I could tell, the animals do seem to be treated with genuine care.

Parking lot is a little small, and it's rather busy at the moment.

Perfect for toddler/preschooler/early elementary ages!
2019年4月
CMZ has a variety of types of animals. This zoo is perfect for very young children as it is on the smaller side, so the kids won't get exhausted and cranky. Also, there is the option to feed the alpacas, so be sure to bring quarters for the treat vending machines! There are birds, large carnivores, and herbivores. December sees the special Reindeer Festival at CMZ with regular visits and photos ops with Santa.

Unexpected

I found it a sad zoo. While the birds were exotic, beautiful and intriguing, other animals were in cages — small, sterile enclosures with pacing animals.

Small but nice
2020年1月 • 家庭
We took our son here for a little post Christmas fun and enjoyed our visit. The zoo is small, it took us about an hour to see everything, but the quality of the animal exhibits made it well worth while. The tigers, wolves and reindeer were some of our favorites. The grounds are kept immaculately clean and the staff are very helpful. There is also a nice gift shop to see.
