When visiting Port Townsend, get an idea of what life was like in the 1800s by visiting the Rothchild house, completely furnished with nice helpful docents. Fantastic view of the water, perhaps the best water and city view in Port Townsend.

The Rothschild House is definitely worth a visit if you like looking at authentic Victorian era homes. This house was built in the 1800's and owned by the Rothschild family. This house - turned - museum is truly an authentic time capsule and includes the family furniture and household possessions - you really get a sense of how the family lived there. It sits on a bluff overlooking the bay, and has a nice yard and garden with lavender beds. The volunteers who work there are clearly passionate about the home and will provide you with an interesting and informative tour!

One of the very early local merchants built this house in 1868 for his family in the "uphill" area, overlooking the water. He and Dorette filled the house with furnishings and typical household accouterments. What is amazing is that it's all still here, a virtual time capsule for history/old house lovers to enjoy. Their unwed daughter lived in the house after their demise, and when she died the son left it to the Washington State Parks Commission for future generations to enjoy. It's staffed by very friendly docents. Highly recommended for all ages. Stairs, no elevator, with a small parking lot on the grounds or street parking.

I am so glad I visited this house with my 5 year old daughter. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, the furniture was authentic and specific to the house, and it was interesting hearing about the history of the family and Port Townsend. The view from the porch is also spectacular!

Bonnie, the wonderful woman manning the desk, was fantastic! She gave us a wealth of history about the house, family & Port Townsend itself before letting us loose to wander the house. Looking back in time is interesting, but Bonnie being there and lending a human voice to the past really made this special!

Not a mansion, but a nice house with all original Victorian furnishings, a lovely view and a pretty lavender garden. If you're into old houses this one is definitely worth a stop.

A small but beautifully presented museum that evokes the history of Port Townsend and one family. Perfectly sealed in a time capsule, this small museum tells the tale of the Rothschild family. Friendly staff and easy to find and park.

The Rothschild house is extremely interesting. It's not the NY Rothschilds you might be familiar with. It's a rather small house in uptown Port Townsend that's full of local history. The tours are self-guided with lots of information available. Worth your time.

The museum is one of founders of Port Townsend. The view from the windows in the front of the houseis one of the best views of the whole area.
