I will always treasure my memories of our 3-day trip to the San Juan Islands October 1-3. We were blessed with gorgeous weather, calm seas and abundant wildlife. The Glacier Spirit is a very comfortable boat affording many opportunities to see everything on our journey. EJ, our Captain, and mates Taylor and Colleen, were exemplary in their care and support throughout our journey. Our stay in quaint Roche Harbor was wonderful in a lovely condo within walking distance of the marina. Our visit to Sucia Island was magical offering time to explore the island and finding fossils embedded in the shoreline rocks. On our last day, our detour northwest of Victoria to witness a pod of Orcas on the hunt for sea lions was amazing. Lastly, the food served on board was delicious. I highly recommend this tour and the shorter day trips offered by Puget Sound Express as well.

This was by far the nicest touring boat I’ve ever been on! It was immaculately clean, the crew went out of their way to ensure family groups could sit together (we noted it on our reservation). They bathrooms on board were super clean, as well as the cabins.
The narration by the crew was exceptional. Very educational, and complete with video to explain differences between individual whales as well as the species in general.
You may hesitate at the price - so worth it. We paid more for a shorter excursion in Alaska and saw a wider variety as well as more whales on this trip! The boat in Alaska was very run down but it’s clear Pugent Sound Express takes excellent care of their boats!
Prices for refreshments on board are super reasonable!
The 6 of us (ranging from 22-87) positively loved this trip and said we wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!

Went out with this group twice this summer for wildlife photography, both for half-day tours, and both times were excellent. Each trip was completely different, the first we cruised around in the Puget Sound and the second time in the Salish Sea. The boats are convenient to book, not overly pricey for what you get, and super fast so you can cover a lot of water in a short time. Plenty of orcas, several humpbacks, at least one gray whale on the first trip, close-up puffins, lots of pinnipeds, and a variety of sea birds. I can't imagine having a bad time on this tour unless you sit inside at a table the whole time. We stay outside the entire trip and love the fresh air and high winds. With any wildlife watching, you always run the risk of not seeing anything, but these guys know where to go to find the active groups. If you want a more intimate experience where you're down closer to the water for photography, sure, you can take a zodiac tour with another company, but this one is the most convenient for us and we highly recommend it. Bring a telephoto lens, the boats are limited by law in how close they can get.

We did the whole day trip to Friday Harbour, and saw whales and wildlife as well as visiting Friday Harbour. Lucky to have a bright sunny day and the scenery was fab too. The crew were excellent and worked hard to track down some tricky to see whales and puffins!

We spent an incredible afternoon on the water with the family owned Puget Sound Express leaving from Port Townsend.
I have been fortunate enough to go on several whale watching trips around the United States and Baja, and have never experienced such a comfortable boat with all the bells and whistles. We saw so many steller sea lions, harbor seals, kingfishers, bald eagles, and great blue herons.
The stars of the show however were definitely the T 99 family of orcas.
The mother Bella, along with her daughter, Holly, sons Barakat and Puck, as well as a yet to be named two-year-old daughter whose antics were adorable and precious.
Naturalist Kyla, and Captain Tony went out of their way to make sure all had an enjoyable adventure.
We got to see this family of whales, not once but twice. Our second viewing of them was as if they were taking us back to port and playing all along the way. Many oohs and awes from everyone on board the boat, we were all amazed by everything we were witnessing.
A definite bonus was that Kyla, the naturalist who took many incredible photos and made them available to all who wanted them via her Facebook page. Also, on the back we were shown videos and photos of the family we had just spent time with and how they identify them and were able to see what they looked like when they were young versus the very day we spent with them.
I also highly recommend having a piece of the blueberry buckle, a dessert that’s been in their family for years, and they even share the recipe .

The crew was incredibly knowledgeable and pretty easily found a pod of orcas in the first couple hours of our trip. We were able to spend a lot of time with them while they were traveling, and then found them again later on the tour when they were more active (playing, even jumping out of the water). The boat was super comfortable and they mentioned it was specially designed to take people whale watching. There were kind of stairs of space to stand outside the cabin so that even when most of the passengers went outside, everyone could see the whales. It was such a great experience and the highlight of our vacation!

There are various tours to book. We chose for Port Townsend as it provides direct access to the Salish Sea. But you have to get there of course. Comfortable boat with max 120 passengers. Ours was almost full but nevertheless ample space for everyone outside. I do not know where the orca s usually are but we sailed more or less to Vancouver Island where, wow, we saw quite some orca s with youngsters. Convenient trip. If you are on the upperdeck you have good views. Only one (mink) whale and a few dolphins, but we were there for the orca s.

2 trips this summer, one in Port Angeles, one in Port Townsend. No action, but since we saw a fin from 200+ yards away, the "guarantee" is met. The Port Townsend trip was spent looking at birds and was back to the dock earlier than expected. SUPER disappointing. Especially for the cost of these tickets.

The boat we had was different than the one pictured in the brochure. It held 65-70 people. We were put at tables with other people and 1/2 of us had to sit backwards. Many people got seasick. There is one bathroom. The trip was 1 hour to long. We only saw one humpback whale and spent the rest of the time bored. The price of the trip $135 was crazy high for what the experience was.

We went on this whale watching trip before leaving for an Alaska cruise this past July. We were hoping to see some Killer whales. We saw over 20! This boat was amazing and the crew was even better. It was almost luxurious…the seating, viewing windows, bathrooms…truly the best boating experience we’ve ever had. Also we got tons of pictures, but they have a professional photographer on the boat too. So you have the option to purchase his link. This was awesome! For $50 we got amazing pictures and videos…hundreds!!! This was a great value and just really a great day! The communication the captain had with other boats in the area provided excellent viewing and finding the whales! I highly recommend. This is one of the more expensive whale watching that we’ve been on, but the quality of the boat, crew and experience was welllllll worth every penny!!!

I do not believe you can bring alcohol on board - there would be a liability. However, they do serve tea, coffee hot chocolate and sodas (possibly water).
The water is usually calm, unless it is a windy day - so obviously check the weather forecast before you go. Once, my husband and I went out in high winds and we saw all 3 pods, J K and L, because they had come to the San Juan Islands to shelter from the weather. I have never seen so many whales breaching before.
I suppose every cloud has a silver lining!

Do you recommend this for kids? Thinking of the Port Townsand to Friday Harbour trip. Kids will be ages 7 & 10. Is it a really LONG day? Will they be bored?
撰写日期:2019年3月16日
Yes, I would definitely recommend this for children, especially if they love nature and enjoy hearing about a lot of history and relevant information about the area. It is not a whole day excursion and the folks that work the boat are knowledgeable and engaging, as long as there is not some safety concern that they need to focus on.

What is the best time to go on a 4-hour trip? At 10am or 2pm? When do we have the most chance to see the orca’s?
撰写日期:2017年12月25日
Thank you for you question about our whale watching tours. The best months for orca sightings are June-September but we have seen an increase in sightings in the later fall and winter months as well. As far as the morning or afternoon there is no difference between the two as far as sightings and activity levels. We look forward to seeing you out on the water soon.

We are planning a trip for the first part of November, generally what animals might one see at that time of the year?
撰写日期:2017年9月4日
Animals in the late fall are deer, elk and eagles, If it is before the first frost also Marmot and Mountain Goats up on Hurricane Hill. Here at Lost Mountain Lodge (B&B in Sequim) we have humming birds at our feeders year round as well as Kingfisher and sometimes egrets.

On several dog friendly websites they list PSE as puppy friendly for a $10 fee. Nowhere on the PSE website does it mention pets or even have an FAQ...are dogs allowed?
撰写日期:2017年7月11日
It would be difficult if allowed. There have never been pets on my trips. The engines can be loud when accelerating.... and some days are crowded. I don't recommend taking a dog even if it is allowed.
撰写日期:2017年7月11日
I think it was around $80 a person. Their website will give current prices. Thank you for your question.
