The same old place, but...
2019年8月
Have been visiting this winery since the mid 90's. We were there this past summer (2019). At first I didn't think the place was even open. We did go in, and found out that the original vintner that we remembered had passed away. His son was now running the place. He knew his stuff, but didn't have the passion for the wines that his Dad did. We got the distinct impression that he was simply reducing the inventory and looking to get out. This is unfortunate, because they always made the best local ports.

Wonderful Ports

Hinzerling never fails to impress with their ports. Still the quirky winery it has always been. If you are looking for a cookie cutter corporate facility that is like all of the rest this is not the place for you. Love the simple atmosphere and LOVE the product.

all due respect to the young man who have the tasting. I get the sense he isn't into it and looking into closing or selling of the remaining inventory.

I was completely impressed with his knowledge about ports and wine. However the "sales office " & "tasting room" looked kind of sketchy.

Of you are into ports check it out, if not you may not want to go here.

Again top points for his knowledge, so I did buy a port.

Ports

Hinzerling is one of the original valley wineries and is still in the same old, weird, dilapidated building they started in. No views or fancy tasting room. here. They're now offering only ports and dessert wines. The person at the winery was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, offering food (dessert) tastings to pair with some of the wines. This is a unique experience and a piece of valley history, and very different than some of the corporate ownership in the area.

Good bold red wines and port. Very unique winery. Mike is a top notch vintner. Has extensive knowledge about the area and its history.

The man here was so sweet, he gave me a bag of corks for free after he asked if I crafted with them. The wine on the other hand, was terrible. The atmosphere, was terrible. It was very warm the day we visited, over 90 degrees, no AC inside. The wine was not chilled... I would not recommend this stop.

Unique, authentic winery.
The vintners were the most experienced and knowledgeable that we found in the area. They answered every process-related question we had. The atmosphere was somewhat like a chemistry lab, rather than a faux Tuscan facade -we loved it! Ports, sherries, and wines. Lots of local knowledge.

This is a unique winery in the Yakima Valley. You will find a wide variety of port-style and late harvest wines, from a knowledgeable and interesting winemaker.

Interesting and quirkey, some good and some bad wine

We were attending the 25th Annual Catch the Crush in late September 2011! Hinzerling is a very unusual winery. they have a building for people who desire a bed and breakfast experience, which I understand people enjoy very much. But the buildings and winery is very low budget "Mom and Pop" style which can both present a very personal experience and uncomfortable one at the same time.

The wines are very enjoyable, or have spoiled, the tasting area is very run down and quite frankly dirty. In CA I'm not certain the facility would be allowed to operate due to health code violations (primarily cleanliness). But perhaps I'm too harsh.

The curator was very pleasant and generous at times. We enjoyed discussing wine with him, and he also offered vinegar tasting. All in all I appreciated there is still a personal experience to contrast the corporate wine industry and I wish the best to this winery.
