We brought our 2 year old along with some friends with young kids (2-4) and they all had a blast! There was plenty to keep them entertained for a few hours before they were all worn out. It is the perfect size zoo to have enough to do that you don’t get bored, but not so much that you feel overwhelmed.
The animal areas have great views for little kids. I didn’t ever feel like anything was out of view or that I had to hold them up to see better for the most part.
My only complaint was there were a lot of exhibits closed or under renovation. But otherwise we had a great time!

Enjoyable to have a ZOO and Aquarium and lots of flowers / gardens in one location. We spent just over 4 hours at this location. 90 percent of the animals could be seen. My wife and I had an enjoyable afternoon
Speakers at some of the exhibits were very knowledgeable
CONS:
Exhibits are spread out so expect to do a lot of walking
at the end of your day you have to walk up a lot of steps to get back to your vehicle
The gift ship seemed way overpriced for what your buying. almost like a donation is included in with every purchase.
Lower food area was not open only the top location was open but because we were wanting to go to it at the end of our viewings they closed because it was the end of the day.
NONE of the food trucks or ice cream places on site were open... we could have used a drink or something cold on a hot day

We love the zoo and aquarium experience. The cafe, however, needs some training. My salad had decomposing cucumbers (you could read a book through them). I requested an exchange and was nearly denied because Brittany (if that is her real name) didn’t see anything wrong with it. I explained they were supposed to be white inside, not dripping and clear. Someone is going to get food poisoning if they don’t have a better understanding of fresh vs rotting food.

We’re are all the animals! Me and my kids decided to go to the zoo this Sunday for a family outing I spent $ 70.33 for what? None of the animals were out and the zoo workers said they take breaks on weekends I would think the animals would take breaks on week days generally because everybody has work and school we saw more empty exhibits then animals! The kids and me liked the aquarium it’s pretty cool in there cool fish and other things other then that there was not anything cool just a bunch of exhibits with no animals walruses were rad tho! We went to the gift shop on the way out and I bought my kid a book and they told me to donate 45 cents! look I have no problem with donating some money but please spend that on getting animals in the exhibits!

I’m a bit biased when I say this is my favorite zoo because I visited it a few times as a kid, and a couple other times as I got older. It never disappoints. The tiger, polar bear and hammerhead sharks are the highlight for me. Unfortunately the polar bear was not active this visit, it’s a blast to view it from underwater. Always a good place to visit when in Tacoma

My husband and I have memberships to both Point Defiance Zoo and Woodland Park Zoo. This zoo is quite a distance from our home so we go to Woodland Park Zoo more often. I feel Point Defiance also has fewer animals and has more of a city feel, while Woodland Park Zoo has more of a nature feel.
Point Defiance Zoo is perfect for little kids though since it is an aquarium and zoo in one. It is also smaller and easy to maneuver wagons and strollers around despite having a lot of stairs. Highlights are the resident walrus, elephant, lemurs and jelly fish! There are also nice playgrounds.
There is free parking which Woodland Park Zoo does not have.
We are fine with not visiting this park more than once or twice a year. We were happy to buy the membership to help with their conservation efforts.

Stopped by around 11am on a sunny and warm Monday morning in March. If you get your tickets on-line ahead of time, when you arrive at the front gate, don't wait in the ticket line - just go right up to the turnstile and display your QR code received by email to enter.
We were quite disappointed to see very few animals in the zoo and we were sad to see the rundown condition of the facilities. Several exhibits were under construction. This is not a zoo I'd recommend seeing anytime soon.

We had about an hour and a half to spend before we could check into our AirBnB. With a 5 year old in the group, this zoo & aquarium was ideal. Seeing all of the creatures was great fun - they even had a person holding a small owl, talking about it with anyone who wanted to stop by. The zoo also has some interesting animal sculptures that are fun for little ones to climb on, and a carousel!

Small enough so that a day's visit did not wear everyone out. Tigers and walruses were a high point. The different types of jellyfish were interesting and you are able to see them fairly closely.

We visited the zoo on Members Night (Aug. 16) and there was very little to see except for the beautiful landscape of the zoo. We stood in line for several minutes to see the Asian Forest Sanctuary special exhibit and all we saw was several empty steel cages and a place to do chalk art? Fortunately we have a season member pass so we will come often but your special member night was really disappointing.

2-3 hours seems to be about the average I have seen, but some of the exhibits were closed both times.
