A place to dump pets and trash and use illegal drugs and have sex while tearing up tiny vegetation and peeing behind the snack shack for all the world to behold. If you go take a weapon for safety and be ready to possibly rescue a helpless pet who no longer is wanted so they’re tossed out like garbage helpless and afraid awaiting a cruel death. It’s become very sad up there. It’s not safe anymore to even go up there.

A beautiful view for anytime of day. We went during the day and it was amazing and maybe even nicer at night. It was like standing in a cloud at night and the wind was whipping around like crazy, my whole family loved it. There are also some grills and picnic tables on site and what looks to be some hiking trails.

If you're travelling north on I-77 and the East River Mountain tunnel is backed-up due to construction, take Rt. 52 up over the mountain and on the other side is an overlook that is surprising to come across. It's a beautiful view below with the town of Bluefield WV spread out before you. Worth seeing.
At the bottom of the mountain you can take Rt. 460 back to the interstate so it makes a nice scenic loop.

I made a 30 minute detour on a road trip to cross into West Virginia just to check it off my state list. This was my stuff. Really pretty view and not that far off of the interstate (10 min?). I think driving up may have been even prettier than the view from the top. There’s a concession stand and restaurants but signs said “closed for the season”

I used to fly my hang glider there. It was a lot of fun. We had many onlookers watching us fly. Good places to eat and a lot of forests

For any first time visitors to Bluefield a must is to drive up for the view from East River Mountain. On a clear day you can see for miles and it gives a great perspective of the area. During the summer months you will find food vendors up there but if not come down to one of the many restaurants in the Bluefields. When you are done enjoying the view I would suggest driving down the southside of the mountain through the town of Rocky Gap. In Rocky Gap drive your vehicle or pedal your bike on county road 61. Going West you will experience rolling hills, farmland and the river as you head to Tazewell and/or Burkes Garden. Going East is completely flat with mountain views, farmland, trout filled river rapids as you make your way toward the town of Narrows and the New River.

Nothing was open when we were there a few days ago, but I understand that summer weekends bring music and foods. The view, however was terrific.

Get off the interstate and look around and slow down. I have stopped there numerous times, always a beautiful site. The facilities have improved over time.

A beautiful view of both Bluefield West Virginia and Bluefield, Virginia. Lovely picnic area, nice trail for walking. Perfect photo opportunity environment.

It was just a little hazy but the overlook is worth the short trip up the mountain! It is a shame that the building was vandalized and there were carvings in the railing. People have no respect for the public access to our countries beauty.

Is the drive up the mountain scary? Is it dangerous, sharp curves and sudden steep drops? Thinking about going here but I don't like sharp curves with steep drops. The ones you see in movies where cars fall off the edge and crash down.

It is not too dangerous. Just take your time going up and please be careful coming down. You won’t be disappointed once you reach the summit. The view is breathtaking! Enjoy!!
