We visited the Fairmont Telephone Museum today. We were met by their Volunteer Employees and lead thru the museum. Each one explained the various phones and equipment on display. Very informative. We were given a demonstration of how they used the old switch board and what outfit was required for the operators.

As a native Fairmont resident, I had no idea this cute little place even existed! This museum is just off the beaten path of downtown Fairmont and well worth a visit. It is full of telephone history and fun to look at. People from older generations will enjoy the step back in time and the younger generations will be amazed at how people used to communicate! The hours vary, so check for days and times it is open.

There is an abundant of old telephone equipment and various Associated items the volunteers that show you around or extremely nice and very informative if this is something you might be interested in I recommend for you to stop check it out

We went here yesterday and the tour guides were very enthusiastic. It was neat to see how the telephone has evolved over the years as well as learn from the past employees how their jobs changed over the years. This was a worthwhile experience. I would not recommend for very young kids as it would be hard to hold their attention.

I stopped by to check the museum out and found out that they are only open on Thursdays. I don't think that it will get very many out of town visitors,I wish that i would have saw the hours for the place.

Helen, Sue, Russ, and Cliff were amazing. They all worked for the telephone company, doing different jobs. This made our trip a great learning experience. FREE and open Thursdays 9am-12noon.

Went in during The Feast of the Seven Fishes celebration and found it very interesting. The men working in the museum were retired telephone company workers who volunteer their time. Plenty to see and the guides really know what they are talking about and have plenty of stories to tell. It's worth taking a look at as it is a big part of our history.

The telephone museum is a hidden gem in Fairmont, WV. The museum exhibits all different types of telephones, the first bag cell phones, pay phones, and the switchboard. I highly recommend going to the museum. The museum is only open on Thursdays and other times by appointments only.

Retired telephone company employees gave us a great tour. We saw lots of equipment and learned all about telephones, etc.

As I have said before, I collect old phones, & I think the younger generation walking around with smart phones in their pockets should see "where it all began"
When I go to a new state I look up Telephone Museum & it seems in many states I find them, & no matter how big or small, fancy or not I will go, & I enjoy them & hope others will go & enjoy them too, for older people it will bring back memories & for younger ones it will show them the History & educate them !
The Telephone Museum in West Virginia is similar to others around the country, it is run by volunteers who are all nice people, The gentleman I made contact with for this museum was most accommodating to meeting me there & showing me around.
I live in the tri-state area & near a big city, so to me driving into Fairmont was so nice, such a sweet little pretty town, sorry I could not spend more time in the town itself.
When I go to a new state I look up Telephone Museum & it seems in many states I find them, & no matter how big or small, fancy or not I will go, & I enjoy them & hope others will go & enjoy them too, for older people it will bring back memories & for younger ones it will show them the History & educate them !
