Awesome experience! Worth facing your fear of heights. Beautiful view of New River Gorge from the catwalk under the bridge, 851 feet above the gorge. Unique adventure. Our tour guide, Missy, was awesome and very informative! I “highly” recommend this walk. Pun intended 😉

So glad I did this - I was seriously afraid I would chicken out and almost said I wanted to go back after only a few yards onto the scaffolding, but I stuck with it, and I'm so glad that I did. It's really very safe - the guide was really calm and understanding, and the rigging is very secure, and the steel catwalk very solid. I was even walking freely without clutching the railing by the end even when the big trucks would pass overhead and the whole bridge would shake.
Lots of great educational content, but obviously the big draw is the view. Incredible!
A few helpful tips:
- This didn't take even close to 3 hours. More like an hour and a half, but we only had a group of 5 people, so it would probably take more time to hook everyone in / out if a bigger group.
- Wear secure shoes, so you can hang your feet over the side. That was really fun.
- It was cold, so dress appropriately.
This was absolutely worth the cost for such a unique and frankly terrifying experience. Quite the adrenaline rush!

This experience was everything I had hoped for. My boyfriend and I went on a cold, rainy day in December and we had a wonderful time. Our tour guide Missy or Misty (sorry) made the walk even better. She seemed to really love her job and had us laughing the entire time. The view below is stunning. I felt secure and safe. We dangled our feet over the edge when we reaching the middle. We learned so much interesting trivia about the bridge from our tour guide. Can’t wait to do this in the spring.

This is a great experience! You feel extremely safe-it would be very difficult to fall off even if not tethered. You are safely harnessed in throughout and there is a catwalk with double rails throughout the walk. Beautiful views and great history told by our guide “Bob”. He was great. The middle of the walk is windy and colder so dress accordingly. So thankful we did!

Our small group of 8 walked the entire length of the bridge on a metal catwalk up to 826 ft. over the river. It does feel like you are very high up (you are) so it can be a bit frightening especially is you are usually afraid of heights. It is actually quite safe. There are handrails on each side and you are clipped in by a cable attached to a harness. Our guide was excellent and gave us a lot of history as well as facts associated with the construction and maintenance of the bridge. It is expensive ($72 + tax/person) but this once in a lifetime experience is worth it.

What a thrilling experience! I felt so safe and secure with the harness and tether.The views from under the bridge were so different from those on the lookout points as well as what one glimpses while driving across the bridge. Our guide, Rusty Ware, was quite knowledgeable about the history of the original bridge, the gorge itself, the New River, the construction of the new New River Bridge, and engineering questions . We had plenty of time to take pictures as well as just stand and look around and down …826feet down! Everyone in our group was in their 70’s, and found the walk to be quite easy. This bridge walk is worth the cost and the time!

While in the area I was able to snag a last minute walk for my hubby.
Staff and guide were friendly and knowledgeable.
A group of 8 took the tour which was total of 2 hours. Safety was a priority.
It was late October so there was still some fall foliage.

We had a great time on our Bridge tour walk! Our guide Rusty, was very informative and entertaining. It definitely should be in your plans if you are in the New River Gorge area!

Awesome views of the underside of a remarkable bridge and the overview of the New River! Solid, two foot wide walkway with hand railings on both sides, plus you are wearing a harness that is strapped into a overhead cable. No worries! If you are terrified of heights, this is not for you. But if you can look out at the gorgeous mountain and river views and overcome any concerns, do it! A once in a lifetime experience. $72 per person. Reservations are a good idea. They stay booked up except in bad weather. It was in the 50's, and we were happily bundled up with gloves on because we're from Florida. Gets colder on the bridge because the gorge funnels the wind. But not too cold or too windy.

Great tour. Jay ,our guide, was awesome! We learned many interesting facts about the famous bridge. Even though it was a rainy morning we were dry under the bridge and the views were still amazing. We bought phone straps from Amazon prior to our trip to secure our phones. They provided us with piece of mind. They sell straps in the gift store but ours were sturdier. The strap also was handy on several of the hikes. Your was a little over priced, hence the four star rating.

Can I not walk for free over the bridge? Then I may take then $$$72 guided tour, but I am not ready to spend this money at this point

sorry for late reply. Maybe there is a sidewalk on the top of the bridge.
The walk is on a catwalk under the bridge roadway itself. it would be a very different expperince

I am looking for something to do with my 13 year old daughter. Would anyone recommend this for a father/daughter day out?
Yes! I have read a lot about this National park and it is one of the best! WV state is beautiful and my wife and I are also planning for a weekend here.

Don’t know if this is of any help to you, but when I looked at their website last night the price per person was $72. Looks like it is at least a 2 hr tour though. If you’ve never been to the park at the bridge, I highly recommend it. It is now operated by the National Parks Service.

2-I read the walk is 2 to 3 hours long? Why is it so long – 3000 feet?

My Wife was not sure at all about this but quickly became comfortable. Our guide was great. They say 2 to 3 hours. more like 2 total.

No, there are facilities available prior to your trip and when you get back to the takeout. You have no access for about 2.5 hours.

No bears but we have seen several of our migratory birds make their return to the Gorge and our in resident peregrine falcon.

Not sure if you'll find coupons for the Bridgewalk, but, as the other reviewer said, call them. They may be flexible. They were very easy to work with!
