A trail and staircase provides great views of the New River Gorge Bridge. The visitor's center is informative and also offers nice views of the gorge.

Nice visitors center with a small museum to explain the history of the area. There is a small gift shop. Don't forget your passport book for National Parks. Great views of the Gorge and bridge. There is a scenic view to walk to with 2 levels of viewing. The lowest viewing area has 178 steps down and up but has stopping locations to rest. The staff are very Fri and helpful.

Excellent spot to stop in and learn a bit about the area. Plus the VIEW! The view alone is worth stopping. My 12 year old really enjoyed the visitor center.

Fayette Station Road Audio Tour is a must. Follow the directions and the speed of driving it tells you. Very informative. We did stop it a few different times due to scenic lookouts. You will find the Q code on the information board by the Canyon Rim Visitor Center near the parking area.
Visitor center has great information. The short walks to view the bridge are worth the walk. There are some stairs too, but you cam see the bridge nicely without doing all the stairs.

My husband and I have been visiting West Virginia in the fall for several years to see the brilliant fall colors as well as the natural wonders. This year we decided to go to the visitor center to make sure we weren't missing anything in the park. The rangers were friendly, informative and gave us maps to help us. There was a short video to view on the area as well as an exhibit room with photos and exhibits on the people, towns, and industry of the gorge. You could also learn about the natural, cultural, recreational and historic resources of the gorge. There is also a gift shop. But the show-stopper was the full-length window in the back of the center. You could see the gorge and the bridge all without even going outside! To your left was a great view of the gorge of the New River far below. You could go through the glass doors to your left and go out on a patio to see the gorge from outside. There was a boardwalk and loads of steps to viewpoints of the bridge OR you could do what we as seniors, did and admire the view of the bridge from inside through the windows to your right. How wonderful for those who are limited in mobility to still be able to see what they came to see. Thank you.

This visitor center is a very good way to begin your trip to The New River Gorge National Park. See the movie about the history of the area. Get maps and trail guides and walk down to viewing platforms for the gorge and the nearby bridge across the river. Looking down you can also see the replica of the old bridge that was used for many years before the new bridge was built. Be sure to download the audio tour of the Fayette Station Road tour which is a must do.

This visitor center is located pretty close to the town of Fayetteville, which is a great city to stay in if visiting New River Gorge. From out the back window/balcony of the visitor center, you get an amazing view of the gorge. You can also walk a short wooden boardwalk to get a great view of the bridge from up high. There is a lower viewpoint down several stairs that we did not do.
Inside the VC are clean restrooms, a gift shop, small museum and helpful rangers to answer your questions. Overall it's a pretty small VC but the park is smaller than many others as well. I will say, I wish the park sign was in a better location to take a picture with. It's the only national park sign I've encountered that is on kind of a steep hill and makes taking a picture in front of it a bit difficult, but not impossible (we were able to!).
You can also get information about some other areas of the NRG, such as Grandview and Sandstone Falls. We also visited Grandview and loved that area of the park too.

Our family loves visiting National Park sites and while we only had time for a quick stop the Canyon Rim Visitor Center did not disappoint. It is right off the highway with very clear signage and a large parking lot. The visitor center has restrooms, a gift shop, exhibit area highlighting the history of the region and a park film. We spoke with one ranger who was extremely helpful and told us about the overlook areas. There are two upper overlook areas. The first one is closer to the visitor center and has over 170 steps that lead down to the lower overlook. The other upper overlook is closer to the road and gives a slightly different view of the bridge. The lower overlook was our favorite spot for seeing the bridge and surrounding canyon. We would love to return sometime to see more of this National Park.

Definitely begin your trip here. Great place to take an easy stroll to see the bridge and walk to the steps and see the second view. The visitors center was smaller than I expected but provides restrooms and some education on the area. Dog friendly.
