Great little museum with wonderful folks who enjoy telling you all about it. One to two hours of history.

This was actually a very nice visit, I give 5 stars for this little museum. It is not a huge museum, can't be expected in such a small town. Basically two floors in a former small town train station. But the local historian and the two ladies that welcomed us made this a very charming and pleasant experience. They don't bother you though, you can explore the museum for yourself. You get a good introduction into the railway and coal boom that hit the area. They have many artifacts, material to read, and you can walk into an old rail cabin. Apparently they get a miniature railroad soon which should make it even more worth to visit. Free of charge!

My visit to the Princeton railroad museum was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history of the area, the impact of the railroad industry, and I found it to be quite interesting. The personnel were helpful, informed me about important points of knowledge, and I will return to see more.

Being a railroad buff I really enjoyed the visit here. There is a lot of history on the Virginian and N&W railroads and a lot of pictures from the old Virginian locomotive plant that was located in Princeton. This is a must visit for any railroad buff.

We were travelling north towards Morgantown, WV when we stopped for lunch in Princeton, WV. There was a sign for a railway museum so we followed the route to this gem of railroadiana. Located in a reconstructed station, there are two floors of history of primarily the Virginian Railroad who operated the line until merged into the Northfolk Southern. The two ladies present were very gracious and answered all our questions. The museum gives a great understanding of how life was in this area not only for the railway industry but the coal mines it served. Sad to see much of what was is no more but it is a great place to visit. No entry fee but donations are welcomed.

We went to find a attraction about an hour from the Airbnb we were staying at in Hinton WV. Once we found it ( Lake Shawnee haunted and abandoned amusement park), and realized it was not open on Sunday. We began a leisurely drive back searching along the way for something to do. We stumbled upon this museum with a open sign late on a Sunday afternoon. We dashed in hoping to get a quick look before it closed. Let me tell you, it was amazing, we met the lady running the place and she mesmerized us for over an hour with railroad, W.Virginia and American history. The artifacts and railroad exhibits alone were worth the trip but the history lesson was priceless! There was no admission fee and the little gift shop had a very small selection of items for sale and they were more than fairly priced.
If you are in that part of West Virginia get wowed by the lady there!

This museum is housed in a faithfully reproduced train station of the Virginian Railway. There are mant artifacts on display and our docent, Pat, had a lot of history to share. The museum is in the process of building a model railroad to give an active display of the area. A good place to visit in a lovely twon.

Quaint gem tucked away. Lots of memoriabilia. Kind staff. Free activities! Loved it. Lots to see and do. Definitely recommend if you have kids and a free hour.

Stopped here on a visit to Princeton. My brother is a big train fan and found out about this museum on the Internet. This museum has a large collection of items from the Virginia Railroad . Tours are free and self- guided. You can take a look inside an actual caboose and learn about its function. The museum is kid friendly and full of much history. I learned Booker T Washington stopped in Princeton on a railroad tour to name one interesting fact. I would encourage anyone interested in railroads and trains to stop here if in the area. They also have a small gift shop with reasonably priced items. The ladies working here were kind, friendly and full of much knowledge about the museum and its contents.

Fantastic railroad museum, well off the beaten track, but more than worth the diversion. The most complete, well organized and friendliest museum of any type we've been to. Railroad buffs will be over the moon, but there's something for everyone, not to mention the real caboose outside that the kids can crawl all over! Fantastic place!
