Peaceful and picturesque

I got there early in the morning and they were not open or giving tours, but you can walk the grounds and read the signs. It is the boyhood home of "Stonewall" Jackson that now operates mostly as a camp, but you can still walk the grounds.

The buildings were not open but the area is so well kept. The log houses were in very good condition and spaces were clean. The mill was interesting and without giving away too much the plaques that have been placed are surprising and touching! We were also glad to go into the family cemetery. Loved this place.

Private tour

We got here late, and the gentleman who runs the mill gave us a private tour. He was VERY informative and we loved every moment!!!

Beautiful

The walk around the buildings is a beautiful stroll. The plaques on the mills are informative and interesting. The museum was closed when we were there, so we didn't get to tour officially, but it was still really a good stop over. Took about 30 minutes to walk the whole thing.

Great location

The buildings were closed due to Covid, but we walked the grounds. We really enjoyed the location. I had a really loved how it was situated and the cabins were really special.

Beautiful cabins lighted up for the Christmas holiday

Only stayed a couple of hours at an event in one of the cabins, but it was modern and seemed to have all of the necessary conveniences.

Off season, but worth the trip

Visitor's center open, but off season for buildings tour. Walked the grounds, worth seeing the construction and restored buildings.
Reading the signs gave some info and peeping in windows you could get the feel of life in the farm community.

Jackson’s Mill Jubilee

The Jackson’s Mill Jubilee is held annually over the Labor Day weekend. It includes a Civil War encampment and reenactment, farm machinery exposition, live music, and arts and crafts. Surrounded by the rolling hills of West Virginia the setting is serene and relaxing.

most informative, enjoyable tour

It was a dreary, chilly morning so no crowd affording us a private tour. There is so much history here and you get a real feel for what life was like in the day. Being a private tour, we got an interesting insight into the personalities of the people who lived here and relationships of Stonewall Jackson to them. It is a very lovely area to roam around. After the tour, we walked around the grounds looking for the gift shop which we found and they have several nice WV items within. I think a stop here is well worth the time.

Rural Serenity

This was my second visit here for a retreat. Know before hand that most of the sleeping quarters are spartan. That being said, these quarters and the rest of the campus are well maintained and very clean.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Not sure how other functions are set up, but ours included home cooked meals served family style; all you cared to eat and delicious
