My wife and I arrived to the front entrance around 12:30pm. There was no backup of cars at that time. We paid for our parking and admittance, and off we went. We were basically able to park pretty much right up front. I can honestly say in my lifetime, 60+ years, I’ve never seen, or remembered, the parking lot being so empty. It was great! It was a pleasant weather day too. We were able to get around with very little human encounters, all things considered. Animals were fairly active, both inside and outside. And there was some hibernating animals, and their empty exhibits. It was such a quiet day that we were the only ones in the small mammals building at that time. Fun! We had a wonderful visit. I would absolutely make another colder weather visit.

Yes, it has been awhile since volunteering and/or visiting The MKE County Zoo. It was just prior to the previous director’s retirement.
My visit today was a little sad as I roamed the grounds and saw many area’s struggling…particularly The Small Mammals building. I sure hope there is a plan to upgrade or refurbish the building, and add more interesting creatures. It appears that a few of the animals have moved to another building (I.e. Lemurs, etc). Also of note was the construction going on in the ARC, and the erosion of species (I.e. Jellies, etc).
The Big Cat building is void of many species that were educational for the people visiting. More work has to be done secure Cats from other AZA affiliates.
The Elephant encounter is very good , as well as the Giraffe Exhibit.
The Primate wing is sparse, again a better effort to work with AZA is warranted.
I would have liked to revisited the wonderful Hippopotamus venue on this trip but it was blocked off. A shame for those paying several bucks for admission and parking.
Finally, I can envision the future of the zoo as a more interactive VR experience with fewer species displayed as animal populations decline, and more unaffiliated AZA zoos and animal refuges increase in number.
I have grandchildren so I’ll continue renewing my annual membership ( it is still a bargain), but I would like the Zoo to be less of a business model and more of an educational experience. (Maybe the County could up the budget).

We came to Milwaukee for President's Day weekend and stayed downtown. We took a bus to get to the Milwaukee County Zoo. I was surprised how easy it was to get here by bus.
We had been to the zoo once before over the summer, but zoos are different in the winter.
This is a great size zoo. It's big but not overwhelming.
We still had a great time.
The animals have less space indoors than outdoors (which is logical even if it's not great).
Milwaukee zoo has so many cool animals. Elephants, giraffes, hippo, red panda, otters, orangutan, and plenty of others.
The Family Farm area is cool. It has a big playground. There we saw goats, pigs, horses, cows
Even in the winter, the cafeteria was still open for lunch, even if none of the attractions were.
We had been to the zoo once before over the summer, but zoos are different in the winter.

We still had a great time.

The milwaukee county zoo is such a great place to visit. It's a beautiful park in itself and the animals were a neat bonus!!!

It's an okay zoo.
Parking was bizarre, including the entrance.
Very expensive admission and parking.
Too many "missing" animals.
Left somewhat disappointed, but we had time and needed something to do.

Just got home from boo at the zoo! Was a very fun family walk and experience! However when me and my family just arrived there, we parked and this man started to yell and swear at my 1 year old nephew and sister while she was buckeling the baby in the stroller. He almost was going to hit us with their car. Because this man was in some sort of “rush” to get parked in a spot. He started calling me and my sister vulgar names I’m a minor and infront of my sisters 1 year old. He wore a bloody werewolf costume to this family event. Very disappointed at the environment already at a FAMILY event?

Wow, what a disappointment. I remember this being a really nice zoo. Clearly, my childhood memories can't be trusted. The aviary reeked. Many of the enclosures were in desperate need of a good cleaning (poo everywhere and the pool containing the seals was covered in algae). Many of the enclosures were far too small for the animals (5 giraffes in a tiny yard with no room to run????). Monkey island only had a handful of monkeys on it. And, many of the concession shops were closed and those that were open were outrageously expensive.

Great zoo to visit. If Uber or Lyft-ing ask to be dropped at pedestrian entrance. Rent a scooter at entrance if needed- Fully accessible facility. Excellent info signage and map. Animals and enclosures are clean and well cared for.
🏆 I was impressed that a few animals were ‘off exhibit’ to give THEM a break- it shows great care is taken of the animal’s needs first! 🐵 Favs: Goat petting corral🐐Dairy Barn ice cream🍦, Baby (2!) Giraffes🦒🦒with a herd. Staff was very helpful and well-informed.

We visited at 1:30 on a Friday and were quite disappointed. We biked there and had complementary tickets. In a nutshell: we barely saw any animals --exhibits were empty and cages were being cleaned (why clean cages while you are still open?) (also many of the animals were being fed in an inaccessible spot while we were there - leading to empty areas), we were going to have a snack and though we saw several places to eat, NOTHING was open except dipndot/cotton candy and the Flamingo Cafe (why are no food spots open while YOU are open), we bought a $5 bottle of water ($5 for a bottle of water?). I guess you have to bring your own picnic lunch and beverage.
I always feel sorry for the animals. This zoo needs a total overhaul, with a new mindset for animals and a new mindset geared towards the customer, etc. etc. I've lived in MKE my whole life and visited the zoo many, many time from childhood on. I worked there for a summer. I felt very sad and let down by the experience today.

The parking was a nightmare as they opened for the day, and the kid working in Dragon land lied about whether or not some of the items there would be available at another gift shop upon exiting so we didn’t have to drag them around the rest of the zoo with us (glad I didn’t buy from him, because they were). The zoo was great overall. We took a break in the shade at the huge playground. I was told to plan 3 hours for this zoo and we spent almost the whole day there! The sky ride and the train are a must. We bought our tickets/parking pass online and scanned though the gate. For everyone’s sake, if you’re going do this. It will expedite the process. :) So many baby giraffes!

Has anyone been to zoo recently? Keep reading reviews that not all exhibits/animals are open. Don't want to drive ( Chicago) if we're not getting the full experience. Thinking of going Saturday any feedback appricated. Thank you.

the bird section is closed, but you can still see some other animals, the train ride is open, but there are also zoos in Chicago area, you no need to drive a long drive to come Milwaukee zoo, I think zoos are more or less the same,

Is there any free or cheap parking within walking distance of the zoo? I have older kids so walking a little bit is not a problem. I just thought I’d check before paying for parking at the zoo. Thanks!

Plenty of parking on the side streets especially if you go early. Be mindful of street signs as there are some places you will not be able to park. Enjoy!

Yes they do. There are 12 of the Mold-a-Rama machines around the park. They cost $3 each
Can a person leave the zoo to take something (like a jacket), back to the car and then come back in (with or without something -like a lunch bag or cooler)? Or is leaving and coming back in not allowed?

Yes, you have access to your car at all times. Lots of folks carry in food.
