Went on a Friday night and wanted to see more of the Upper Mississippi. It was a beautiful evening with live music on board and an interesting view of the river. Well worth your time

We really enjoyed the cruise. It was the 6:00 cruise with live music and both the captain and the lead musician were great story tellers and very entertaining. We had great weather and a wonderful cruise. I would really recommend this cruise.

A fabulous tour of the Mississippi River and backwaters. Robert, owner and guide knows the river and its inhabitants. Recommend tour for anyone.

We took a 11 AM cruise. It was a wonderful day and enjoyed the cruise very much. Guide was very informative and at times funny. Learned about history, barges and wild life on river. We saw several eagles and their nest. Also saw heron and several other birds. Would definitely go in another season.

When you board the boat, I don't recommend being the first, and sitting in the very front of the boat. Those seats are in the sun if it's sunny, or in the rain if it's raining. Directly behind the front seat is a very comfortable seat with a roof over it. And you can see just as much from there, and you can stand up to get a better look anytime. Other than that just enjoy the wildlife and barge activity. We saw bald eagles and barn swallows (they're the ones with the forked tail feathers). Our captain knew some of the terms they use on the barges, like "building tow".

The November weather gods worked their magic when we took the fall migration cruise the first weekend in November. Not only was the weather picture perfect, but the birds were out in masses. We booked online and showed up on time to find a woman checking off names at the top of the stairs you take to reach the boat. Once checked in, we were told to check in again at the boat to ensure stragglers didn't get left behind. Everyone running the tour was friendly, professional and knowledgeable, and the boat was comfortable. The first to board sat outside in a small area, which was the only outside seating area. Blankets were thoughtfully placed on the cold metal seats. Since we weren't first, we sat inside on comfortable seats. The boat was spacious with a bathroom provided, plus free snacks, tea and coffee. Once the boat began moving, people milled about, switching between outside and inside, although the original outside sitters never relinquished their seats. It doesn't matter where you sit, because you can move about and get good viewing vantage points. The boat moves smoothly down the river, going about 8 miles downstream. Along the way you may be treated to the numerous bald eagles, pelicans, and a variety of migrating birds. On one sand bar the naturalist counted over 50 eagles! Over 50,000 ducks were also occupying the water. The naturalist was interesting and informative. It was a delightful trip and we are planning on returning for more of the trips they offer. You can park your car in the downtown area, but there is also a parking area south of the building.

Once you find the ticket booth on Blackhawk Avenue you are home and dry as Dixie will give you all necessary info. and an easy to follow map. The booth is not far from the boat itself which is docked in an area with spacious parking and toilets.
You spend some time on the main river and see some of the working barges and buildings and then move into the backwaters where we saw bald eagles, beaver workings, and heron.
It was a rather grey and drizzly day for our trip and we were pleased to be inside. Visibility was fine from inside and I could take photos through the easily opened sliding windows.
We were given a book on Fishing and Boating on the Mississippi River which was full of detailed info. An unexpected and appreciated extra.

Bought tickets online and the ticket booth was very easy to find. Since the water level was up we had to use a different boat dock and with the map that they provided at the ticket booth it was very easy to arrive at the designated boat dock. Enjoyed the narration and the scenic boat cruise very much. Bathroom on board. You could purchase water and chips for a dollar a piece or bring your own drink and snack on board. We saw quite a few eagles and one eagle scooped up a fish right in front of the boat. That was quite a sight. Saw a few beaver dens that were pointed out to everyone on the boat. Jerry was a great navigator and I think it was Carol (not sure on the name) was an excellent narrator. She really knew the history and the workings of the river. We did have binoculars along but did not use them much since everything we saw was not that far off. Great adventure for young and old. Get there early if you want a seat on the outside open deck of the boat. We arrived a half hour before the cruise and the people were already lined up and the open part was all full so we sat inside.

We ordered our tickets online and picked them up at their small ticket booth on Blackhawk Street [about 1/2 block west of intersection of Blackhawk and Highway 18]. The riverboat is in the process of moving their dock, so it is a good idea to stop at the booth for accurate directions to the dock The booth is open one hour before scheduled departure.
There is indoor and outdoor seating on the riverboat. You can purchase water or various kinds of chips for $1 each. You can also bring your own food and beverages with you.
The guide and Captain were both friendly and knowledgeable about the history, commerce, nature and points of interest along the Mississippi River between Prairie du Chien, WI and MacGregor, Iowa.
The highlight was seeing so many bald eagles. We even saw one swoop down and catch a duck.

We had a hard time finding the place to purchase our tickets compared to where the boat was docked, but it was definitely worth searching it out. The captain and the guide were very friendly and knowledgeable. The guide gave lots of history of the area, pointed out wildlife along the shoreline, and was entertaining as well. Our two children (ages 11 & 14) loved the trip, although next time we'd get there earlier so we can get seats along the outside of the boat. Sitting in the inside really limited the views. We'd definitely do this trip again!
