Fantastic museum showing many different types of guns to that have been “dug up” from prior to civil war up to WW2. All well presented by era and labeled in a small but effective space. The Owner is very nice and welcoming, also extremely knowledgeable. You can easily spend several hours there. I highly recommended visiting if you have the opportunity.

The owner did an excellent job displaying these relics from the past and is a walking encyclopedia of each one. Everything was labeled including a brief history of where it was found and who possibly used it.
If you visit the Cody Firearms Museum, you need to see Dug Up also.

This is a must see. So much history in one place. Hans had so much knowledge about his collection. Definitely a history lesson. Don’t miss this piece of our past. A massive collection.

This place is a nice little gem just off the main street. I didn’t plan on stopping but sure glad we did, I'd recommend to anyone! Great conversation with the owner who is very personable as well. Make this a stop and you won't regret it!

Contrary to what you may think from the name of this museum, this really isn't a firearms museum: it's a museum of American history (both the good and the bad).
It's extremely-well organized with informative labels for every weapon and artifact. Hans, the owner, is personable and extremely-well informed, with a lifelong passion for his subject. Weapons and firearms from the 18th century to the 20th are on display, including a few antiques for sale. The detritus of battlefields, the "needle in a haystack" finds of guns and rifles in rivers, buried in the mud, stuck in trees...it's utterly fascinating to see the relics of the westward movement of Europeans across the west. There are some artifacts of several original Native American Nations on display as well.
How did a French pistol from the early 1700s make it to the California Gold Rush? Visit and find out!

We had a great chat with the owner and learned a lot in this museum! I will definitely be back! Loved how he has organized the museum by era but also made it fun to go back and forth between cases. There is so much in here to look at you could spend hours and hours!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Cody Dug Up Gun Museum! We actually went back 3 times during our week stay because we were mesmerized by the expansive collection of dug up guns and the knowledge of owner, Hans (we didn’t have a chance to meet Eva, but can only imagine her equally educated on their fascinating collection). We did get to meet his awesome dog, Rudy who helped check us out at the gift store. It’s an absolute must see, so check it out if you have plans to go to Cody, WY!!! You will not regret it & will definitely learn a lot.

This is an absolute gem of a museum. Extremely fascinating to see the exhibits and learn about them. The knowledgeable owner has researched items as far as possible so the back stories really make you think that this is living history, not just an item to look at and move on. Highly recommended.
