We really enjoyed this tour - our guide was pretty determined for us to see the horses and took us to several locations in order to spy them. We did find a herd towards the end of our tour and they really are beautiful. If you are in Cody, this is a great way to spend a couple of hours. Be aware, the roads that they need to drive on are a quite bumpy so hang on! But the horses are worth it!

This business is very mismanaged. Their building and vehicles lacked any funds improving them. The van we were in had 10 passengers, 4 rows of seats. If you sat in the third or last row you had no chance of hearing any information from the tour guide or getting any worthy A/C. We asked the tour guide to speak up several times so we could hear her and she mearly smiled, and we continued to not be able to hear. The A/C vents lacked any covers so the air couldn't be directed. The roads they took us on were public roads. Save your money and drive your own car or wrestle any other guests in your van out of the front row to make this trip worth your money. I suggest you bypass this tour and spend your money elsewhere.

Red Canyon Mustang tour is a must if you are in Cody WY. Jared was our tour guide and provided some very informative facts about the area, the horses and even some cool rocks that we were able to take home :)
The heard that we saw in McCullagh peaks was phenomenal all of the horses out there are definitely beautiful and we were even able to see a couple of the spring foals that were out.
Definitely recommend.
Disclaimer, at first you will think that "What did i just pay for" because of the vans or other things about the trip that just seem a little unprofessional although it is amazing when you get out to the peaks and start seeing everything and hear what your guide has to say.

Amazing! Jared is a great tour guide, I can't say enough good things about him or the tour. For $45 you get the experience of a lifetime! If you are in Cody this needs to be at the top of your list of things to do!!! The only word to describe this is magical! Thank you Jarred and Red Canyon! I would do this again and again!

Couldn't hear the driver past the second row. I called before reserving based on other reviews and was assured they had that issue corrected.Got within a mile of the mustangs, couldn't go down a BLM road, not marked that you couldn't. We couldn't walk that far, so paid $45 each to stand out in a desert by the van. Tour was to be 2 1/2-3 hrs, Still had lots of time to look elsewhere. We were back in town in two hours. A waste of time and money.
They should give a maximum walking distance, and if it's that far, go look somewhere else.

Liz, our guide was fantastic!!! Sweet so, very knowledgeable. She told us the history of these beautiful horses, knew their travel patterns and the locations she had seen them earlier in the day. The Canyon views are beautiful it reminded us of Arizona. Heading back she was able to find us the heard.. it was a magnificent sight.

Our guide went out of his way to find these magnificent wild horses and get us in the best possible position to get good photographs of them. This is a unique experience and we highly recommend it! Even after a week in Yellowstone seeing bears and wolves, this was a special experience.

We had a MAGICAL TIME during this wild horses tour. Our guide was absolutely fabulous! ( We unfortunately did not catch his name but he's new to the company and is originally from Montana.) It was just myself and a friend and a lovely older couple from California. Our guide took the time to point out cactus, sage bushes, funnel webs, spiky toads and pronghorn bolting across the plains. Although we were quite a distance from the wild horses, the binoculars really helped us see them "up close." Our guide had an answer for our every question and provided fascinating details about previous "stallion leaders" and their mares and foals. I learned so much about their history, eating habits, grazing patterns, herd behaviors, outcasts, fighting, how they survive in bad weather and how the government controls their numbers. My friend and I both agreed this tour was our favorite part of our trip to Wyoming.

Had a great time on the wild horse tour! Mike was knowledgeable, fun, and flexible with us. We saw several horses, learned about the local ecology, and took tons of pictures. Loved it!

We had such a great time with Sunny and Michael. These horses roam on thousands of acres and yet they managed to get us up close enough that we did not even need to use the binoculars they provided for each of us. I had no prior information on wild mustangs so to learn all about them and then be able to watch as the stallion protected his mares was amazing. The history lessons and views were incredible. We were a group of 12, ages from 50-12 and every one in the 2 vans loved it. Even the three 19 year old boys. It was a great day and I would highly recommend this trip!

I read your review of the Mustang Tour - I have a question - are these horses really wild mustangs or are they a herd that is managed in an enclosed area and allowed to run feral? I see fences, and I have searched for the groups out in the Cody area without ever finding them. The true mustang herds tend to be illusive, and I find it hard to see how a 'tour' can always see the herd.

They are in a fenced area. As all "wild horses" in the U.S. are. The BLM "allows" so many horses, and keeps them on birth control because they do not want them to over populate and be any competition with cattle. They are as wild as the U.S. has, as in there is no one who gives them medical care. We drove for over an hour to find them, but because they do tour in the a.m. and p.m., they usually have an idea where they were last seen. I loved the tour and thought it was well worth it. When looking into a National Park with wild horses it said that the horses and buffalo were also fenced in there, for the same reason, not to compete with the cattle. If there were competition, the horses would loose.

The cost was $33 person. I was in a small group (only 5 guests) so we were not cramped up in a bus. We were in a van with a/c. Very comfortable. Well worth the cost of the tour.

We did not have to walk but about 50 yards to be close to the horses. They actually walked between my husband and I because we were in two different groups maybe 15-20 yards apart. You can actually see the horses from the van and would probably get pretty good pics with a camera that has a zoom lens. Hoe this helps!

How far you have to go on foot always depends on how close the horses are they day of your tour to one of the tour driving "paths".
Our guide had gone out the night before our tour to locate the mustangs and had mentioned they we pretty far off the beaten path and that we might have to do a fair amount of walking to find them. However, they had travelled a few miles during the night and we located them near an easily-accessible watering hole.
We could see the mustangs from the vans, but in order to view more of them (because of the hills) and get better pictures, we walked in several hundred yards.
