There are three different viewing areas. One is rather steep and has 30 or so stairs. The others are a longer walk, but fewer stairs. However, you can still see the falls without going down the stairs.

Wayne: Search the Web for rainfall in any area you wish to visit. I was there in early June 2018, thus snow melt from higher elevations. Western Wyoming is much drier in late September, thus less water feeding streams. The Falls will be less spectacular, but there's a bonus: You'll encounter fewer tourists possibly having the entire area to yourself. At any attraction worldwide, when the area is most attractive, it attracts more visitors. Perhaps that's why Canadians visit Florida in winter☺

This area will be formerly open from Memorial Day to Mid Sept. The hours are 9:30-5:00. There is a small parking lot to park in during these hours. If you arrive during after hours, there is a rope or gate you can walk around and maybe only room for 2 cars or one bus to park.

Try using GPS, or even search the Web by entering the following description: SHELL FALLS INTERPRETIVE CENTER. The Web indicates: From Shell, Wyoming, take Highway 14 east approximately 11 miles. It's about a mile west of state road 264. There's a paved pull-off and limited parking, that accommodates mega tourist buses and RV trailers. When I was there in June, restrooms were under reconstruction and only Porta Potties were available. I hope you can find this incredible site, well worth the visit.

I’m not sure how far it is, as I’ve only been there once. However, I believe October would be amazing with all the changing colors!

We haven't had snow since last month. I think the storm you're referring to was south; Laramie/Cheyenne area.

HI, yes it will be a beautiful time to come. The weather is gorgeous right now and it cools of nicely at night. The feds have closed the interpretive center at the falls, but you can still go see the falls. It is beautiful. You will likely have to park outside the drive/parking area because they may have gate across the entrance!

You can go to Cody and see all these in one day. be careful with the ICE and Snow on the road.

Next to the Hwy. It may be closed now due to winter but you can park on the side of the road. be careful with the ice and snow. Walking is 300 yards. Which visitor center. If it is Shell falls it is next to it. Be advised bathrooms are lucked up.
