We had a fantastic experience all around with Hawaiian Surfing Adventures. Bridget was incredibly friendly and helpful getting everything rolling before starting the lesson and we had such a lovely experience driving to the beach with her mom (and our instructor's aunty) and learning she was originally from the same province in Canada as us! Fun connection!
Our instructor Evan was awesome! So many positive things to say about him. He made it easy for all of us to learn (two adults, two kids aged 9 & 11). He's a natural with the kids and I could tell they felt immediately comfortable with his instructions.
We all had multiple successful take offs! So fun! Evan noticed my oldest kiddo was taking it to it pretty well and taught him how to do a switch stance. Credit goes to my kiddo for trying, but I absolutely have to extend credit to Evan for his seemingly natural ability to connect to everyone and make them feel comfortable and confident.
Our surf lesson was one of the highlights of our trip. We loved it so much we returned the following day for their full day board rental to have some fun on our own. Evan remembered us and even offered us a few tips on the best section for waves in the bay that day.
Mahalo HSA! No doubt we will return if we're lucky enough to return to Kauai in the future.

Had a great time! Within our group of 4, ages 22-66, all of us were successful at getting up and surfing. Waves were small but the instructors were able to make it happen! Everyone with this outfit was friendly and fun! We may even go again before we head home - that much fun! Mahalo to the team in Hanalei!

Family owned and operated. We felt so welcomed and safe and supported. Being from the east coast, I was scared of surfing and almost canceled. Sean was a patient and natural teacher. We really enjoyed our experience and would recommend it to anyone, even little ones!

Nate was super awesome to have for a surf lesson! He was really helpful but still made it a good time, will definitely be requesting him next time we come!

I already knew how to surf a little, so Luca took me out to bigger waves and helped me fine tune. He was cool and knowledgeable. I really liked my lesson.

These guys were the best. Sean and Kohl had our group of 6 all catching waves on our first lesson. We had ages from 9-43 and everyone had a blast and want to do it again before we leave. Highly recommend this company!

My daughter and I had a great time learning to surf with Tapu! He was extremely patient and helped both of us get up on our boards pretty quickly. I’d definitely recommend family surfing lessons for anyone in the island!

We had a fantastic time and admittedly, didn’t know why to expect going into it. Everything was well run throughout the process and when we got on the water, we had a quick tutorial and then hit the surf. Everyone got up on their first try and spent the rest of the morning chasing after the next one! Kohl was wonderful and all the staff were super professional and friendly! Highly recommended for a fun family experience- mom, dad and kids (14, 11) had a great time surfing together and talking with Kohl, the instructor, in between sets. Great memories!

Instructor Jack was extremely patient and helpful with helping my wife and I learn how to surf! We had an awesome time and I recommend this to anyone of any age. Very fun

Having never surfed in Hawaii before, I wonder how to proceed with our plans.
My son and I surf regularly in Monterey CA.
He is an agressive 15 yr. old shortboarder (also shaped a couple of his boards and does his own ding repairs).
I'm more of a longboarder/ hybrid boards in the mid 7' range.
Is surfing the reefs safe?
How does one get to the reef?
Do you offer expert lessons or tours?
Are the locals friendly to respectful strangers?
Any tip really would help me with my plans.

Hi! We will be coming to Kauai in early March and have 3 teenagers who want to surf a lot on our trip. They have each surfed maybe 6x in the last 5 years but I would not consider them intermediate surfers. What part of the island will be most ideal for their skill level at that time of year?

If they don't have local knowledge of the beaches and breaks, then it may be wise to set them up with a lesson first. My girls are beginners and Hawaiian Surfing Adventures knew the entire island, all the breaks, and are very knowledgeable. You are going in the winter - swells will be bigger, currents stronger, knowledge of the breaks in kauai will be important. If it were my kids I wouldn't let them paddle out unless they talked with some experts first. They will evaluate and won't take them anywhere they can't handle. Hanalei Bay is predominantly a sand bottom, probably the safest best.
