Interesting Look at History
2021年9月
Found this museum to be quite interesting, with its local history from a Chinese perspective. Well worth a stop.

Worth the trip to see the movie
2019年12月
A bit of history about the old life style in Hawaii for Asian people. Interesting bits of info on the social life and the development of the island. A small number of exhibits to see. Great old black and white movie filmed by Thomas Edison which I watched twice!

Very small museum about Chinese culture on the island
2020年3月
20 minutes will get you the gist of this place. Hawaii is an interesting place because it truly is a melting pot of many different cultures. I think we mostly associate Polynesian culture but the Chinese, Japanese and British cultures also had great influence.

The main reason for the 3 stars is that I think the primary focus is the gift shop. I could be mistaken but that is the impressive that I got.

Ticket Included With Baldwin House
2020年2月
Since we had been in the Baldwin House and that ticket worked for the Wo Hing Museum we decide to try it. It was only a couple of blocks away on Front so we went. Interesting as it told the history of the Chinese that came to the islands to work.

Chinese propaganda
2020年2月
They will lure you into the nearby Cookhouse on the premise that they show Edison films from 1898 Hawaii. That's true. But after that you get Chinese propaganda about how great China is. In appropriate for a so-called temple or museum. The Chinese history in Hawaii is interesting and important, but the adverisement was not called for.

Well Worth a Visit.
2019年11月
It was a little cramped space wise in the entrance area but once inside is was very interesting and informative.
There was also an excellent film situated in the Old Cookhouse.

Small but informative museum
2020年2月
Focus on early days in Hawaii and the Chinese presence there. Interesting films to watch, but the overall displays were small. As a mah jongg player I loved seeing the old sets on display; had hoped for some mah jongg swag to purchase, but sadly there wasn't any. However, the admission was inexpensive, and was good for the Baldwin Home just down the street

Watch films of Hawaiians taken by Thomas Edison, 1898-1906
2019年12月
Small but informative museum of earliest Chinese in Maui, in an old Chinese benevolent society building. The caretaker/archivist is welcoming and informative. The highlight is in the cookhouse in the back where you may watch black and white films of Hawaiian life, taken 1898-1906, by Thomas Edison. Scenes of Hawaiians dressed in western clothing, riding horses, horse and buggies; working in sugar cane fields, putting the canes on railroad cars. Really WORTH the stop.

So much history and only $5.00
2019年11月 • 好友
I have lived on Maui since 1986 and November 2019 was the first time I have ever been to Wo Hing Temple Museum. Wished I knew about this while my kids still lived here.

There is the first building you go into that is filled with artifacts and pictures of the past. The elder Chinese lady that works here was full of knowledge and so sweet and friendly, she couldn't do enough for us.

As you exit that building the path lead you to the cook house where the workers would gather for their meals. Three large wok's are in the back of this room where the meals were prepared. They have several benches inside for you to sit and watch a movie of the history which includes the migrant workers and Hawaiians. I thought there was more history about Oahu than Maui although, still very interesting.

The cook house is very old and primitive, you can see through the boards that make the walls. I'm shocked everything hasn't been destroyed from rain!
