Disappointing, do not waste your effort
2019年9月
My husband and I have been taking Maine vacations for 10 years so tried to mix in something new. I called on our long drive up from Pennsylvania and we reserved the class at which time I was informed the owner takes cash or check and does not ever cancel a class. We were looking forward to it and actually had this as a main activity for our last day. We walked in only to be informed by the owner that the class was cancelled. No call ahead to us and there was no emergency. However she said she was very happy to sell us her book. I was livid. She very easily could have rectified the situation by getting ingredients from the market around the corner and honoring her business model. She said "I'll answer questions for you if you want." Ridiculous. This woman is unprofessional. Do not waste your vacation time with her business. I rarely write reviews but in this case hope that it helps others.

Popovers
2018年9月 • 夫妻情侣
While stopping in Bar Harbor on a cruise, we took a popover and chowder cooking class. We learned very good lessons we will carry forward. Besides general cooking and household tips, like using cider vinegar as a disinfectant and discovering NordicWare popover pans, in a couple of hours we made outstanding Maine white fish chowder and the best popover ever. We have used the recipes for both and are very happy to have learned our lessons well. All in all a very affordable and excellent way to enjoy local fare.

Anniversary Vacation

Decided to do a little something out of the norm and discovered this cute little cooking school off the Main Street on Rodick Street. Live Maine Lobster and Blueberry muffins was the class we decided to take (others offered). Not only did we learn how to cook live lobster but how to present and how to dismantle and how to eat a lobster. Such a fun class with a lot of laughs! Would definitely recommend this class for everyone! If you are looking for a fun twist on your vacation then go see Sharon Joyce at the Ambrosia Cooking School! Loved it!

Your may like, you may not. Depends on your level of expectation.
2017年6月 • 家庭
I booked this class for my wife and daughter and they learned a lot about cooking and preparing lobster. They were happy to have taken the class, and were really looking forward to it during our stay in Bar Harbor. This was just a 2.5 hour class, so I don't think they had super high expectations about what they'd be learning in such a short period of time. That being said, if you are on vacation and want a brief cooking class experience, I'd recommend this class.

On the other hand, if you have very limited time in Bar Harbor and have to pay the cruise ship price for this class (instead of $50), I'd look elsewhere. You may be disappointed by the fact that a large (90 minute) portion of the class involves instruction on how to make blueberry muffins (something even my 21 year old daughter knows how to make), searching for ingredients, not being able to leave with food or obtain recipes outside of the course you signed up for.

Thus the mixed reviews here on TripAdvisor.

Hi Tom. Thanks for taking the time to write and recommend the class. I am sorry that you didn't have a chance to actually take the class yourself but glad they learned a lot. Sharon

Practical approach to making desserts and great results!
2017年6月 • 好友
My sister and I attended class on 6/19. We participated in making desserts that were good and used ingredients that are usually found in kitchens. We heard several 'tips' that were very useful. The class started and ended on time. We got to sample each thing we made and we got copies of the recipes. We enjoyed the class and recommend it to others. It was a good way to spend the afternoon and very informative. We came home and made the pie for company the next day! Everyone enjoyed it.

Thanks and I enjoyed meeting you. One of my biggest hopes is that the recipes learned are ones people will try at home. Great that the pie was a big hit!

Get Cooking in Maine!
2017年6月 • 夫妻情侣
Two couples and one teen age boy took Sharon's class. We enjoyed our afternoon. Sharon told us all about herself and taught us several new things. From how to get every bit of a lobster from it shell, to picking out the best vanilla and her trick for removing accidental eggshells. Delicious tastings and fun hands on involvement. A fun way to experience cooking with a Cordon Bleu Chef!

sadly dissapointed

There was no itinerary, no course instruction,s and no introductions from the teacher. She was very unprepared for class and spent a lot of time looking for ingredients. I learned absolutely nothing new. Overall I paid $50.00 to make 5 Google caliber recipes that I couldn't even take home. The teacher only gives you a spoonful of the food you made to try and she takes the rest home. One recipe was maple syrup on vanilla ice-cream, another, frozen blueberries and banana in a blender to make "sorbet". We also made sugar cookies and a 3 ingredient pie crust. When I tried to discuss my disappointment with the teacher, she was dismissive and unapologetic, even rude and aggressive at times. The baking class I attended was similar to my high school home economics class. There's so much beauty to experience on MDI that cost less and is worth more, don't waste your money here.

Glad that you liked the blueberry pie. I am sorry that you were disappointed with the class and that you couldn't take the pie back to your camp site. As I explained it wouldn't be fair to any others in a class. I hope that you have had the opportunity to make some of the recipes and desserts made in the class.

Loved learning about New England cooking
2015年8月 • 独自旅游
I stayed at the vacation rental at Aster House which is next to Ambrosia Cooking School, and I took a few of the cooking classes. They were all interesting and informative. In one of the classes people from a cruise ship excursion left because the advertising on the cruise ship was incorrect. Ambrosia advertising made it clear that it was not a class where everyone had a work station. It was a demonstration class where people who wanted to help could do that. I learned a lot and may not have attended if I had to participate. I thought she did a great job of involving people who wanted to be hands on.

Pathetic and a first-class rip off!
2015年10月 • 夫妻情侣
We attended this recently on vacation via a cruise ship excursion and the owner/cook described it as "The Taste of New England" where we would "create" New England foods by cooking them. She took our $90.00 for a 3 1/2 hour demonstration that consisted of her making mini-blueberry muffins and a couple of lobsters that she divided up between 20 people. On top of this her "demonstration" was classless, amateurish, and the equivalent of a fifth-rate YouTube posting. The only "creating" we got to do was a bad experience and formulating how to warn people to not get led into this circus trap.

Sorry that you did not get the class that you thought from the cruise description. Bar Harbor is beautiful and I hope that if you return you will let me know and we can talk about things that you wished were in the class. Hope you have tried the Lemon Glazed Wild Blueberry Muffins.
