Having lived in San Francisco for 40 years and now living in Palm Springs, my husband and I returned for a few days to celebrate our 37th. anniversary. Reading newsprint and social media we thought the Centre would be a wasteland. While many stores have closed, Bloomingdales is open and looked as good as always. There was a high security presence and notices to contact if anyone saw any security risks throughout the Centre. We remember it in its boom days and were saddened by the lack of eateries and stores. We know San Francisco is resilient and the beauty of the city is incomparable. We wish the Centre well and if you are visiting please give the stores that are still there your business.

Fantastic mall, a shoppers delight, only 4+ star retail stores here Zara, Razer, Swarovski, Bloomingdale's and so much more plus a food court!

I was interested in the beautiful building of The Emporium department store which was built 1896 in style of Modern Renaissance. The building survived the 1906 earthquake but was destroyed by the following fire. But it was rebuilt in original style in 1908. I found that at the beginning of this century (21st) the building changed hands, inside was totally rebuilt with exception of the dome - which is beautiful and which was incorporated into new Westfield department store. Luckily they kept the facade from 1908 and it's beautiful. I went inside but was not interesting to buy anything also to see what is there.

The place itself is grandiose and splendid! The building is remarkable...
I don't know if it was due to the time of year but there were a lot of closed stores and unused commercial spaces... this created a rather strange atmosphere and not very conducive to shopping. Damage. My place is worth a look!

Pathetically sad. Rapidly moving toward blight. Most of the stores have moved out. The remaining stores have lonely employees standing around as if in one of those abandoned Midwest shopping malls. Why would anyone come to this dump then spend over $150 on a pair of shorts at psycho kitty? The Adidas store is gone, so there's literally zero reason for me to ever come here again. Heading out I decide to walk through Bloomingdale's. Security teams guard the doors, and employees stand around and chat. Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the employee to customer ratio is 200 to 1. There are more security guards in this store right now than there are customers.

This is a dying mall. It's been a dump for a while, but now it's worse. Don't waste your time, and by no means spend $20 to park at 5th and mission. There is literally zero reason to come to this mall anymore.
As evidence of how pathetic this mall is, check out my picture of the entire wall mural dedicated to hand sanitizing, and there are no hand sanitizers in the spot with all the arrows pointing toward them.

Shoppers beware of your safety!!! I was viciously assaulted by a gang of female assailants in the San Francisco downtown Westfield shopping mall at no fault of my own on 7/29. While standing next to the escalator in front of the ZERO& store waiting for my drink order, one of the female assailants threw her drink with full of liquid and ice at me. Then two other females walked up and hurled racial slur at me, punched and kicked me numerous times in the head, face, and other parts of my body. This traumatic event had occurred around 7pm at the food court level in front of the ZERO& store of Westfield mall.
I had to scream and shout at the top of my lungs for securities and police while being punched and kicked severely on the floor and watched by a large crowd of bystanders and store workers. Upon arrival of three security guards in the mall, they simply stood there and did not take any action to restrain the assailants or even bother to speak to them before they blatantly walked out the mall. An accomplice in the assault took my cellphone and hid it away after it was thrown on the floor during the attack. Eventually I had to ask a security guard to retrieve my cellphone. After I was violently beaten on the ground, I had to call 911 myself to get the police to show up. Minutes later when the police and medics showed up, I didn’t get the help I needed other than being questioned repeatedly by the police while I was in a total state of shock, confusion, and anguish. After communicating with the medic about my severe head injury, the medic didn’t even bother to provide me ice packs for my brain injury until my arrival at the ER in Kaiser hospital. When I asked and urged the police of the reason why the mall securities and police are not going after the criminals (doing anything to arrest), the officer simply responded, “They have to let them go!”
After this horrific, traumatic incident, I have decided to move out of this city that I have lived for 12 years as it’s no longer safe to live and enjoy life even in public places!

Today I needed to go to Bloomingdale’s & Nordstroms’s; both located in this mall. Sadly, Nordstrom‘s will be permanently closing it’s doors here on 8/27/23. I’m afraid this could have a very negative impact on the other stores in this mall, since Nordstrom’s is a huge centerpiece & draw -time will tell. There’s a decent fast food court on the lower level & I chose to have a Philly steak sandwich at Charley’s Grilled Subs. It was a very satisfying & yummy sandwich, made fresh. I would return to Charley’s. However, if I didn’t need to go to Bloomingdale’s & Nordstrom’s today, there would have been no reason for me to come to Westfield Mall. And, since Nordstrom’s is closing here soon, I may never return. One thing that stands out at Westfield Mall is the architecture…. the spiral escalators were quite impressive & interesting to look at, and they go up & down an atrium, so you can see all the different levels at once. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a spiral escalator before today, They are very rare & I think there’s only about 100 of them in the entire world. Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas has one too. I am grateful that I came here & got to experience Nordstrom’s at this location.

that's a riot!!!!! we got robbed but not even a thank you for warning your patrons!!!!! you guys don't want anyone to know that it is frigging DANGEROUS outside your Mall!!!! thanks for your concern!!!!!!!!!

Basically it is San Francisco. The city itself is extremely liberal and do their best to take care of their homeless. Therefore they attract a lot of homeless. Some of the homeless are that way due to bad circumstances. Some of mentally sick. Either way, you need to watch out after sunset no matter where you are in the city.
Every city has sections where you do not want to be after sunset. It just so happens that SF has a lot of those areas due to their policies. Being forewarned is being forearmed.
If Market Street freaks you out that much, then I would avoid all of San Francisco at night.
