I have been buying beverages there for several years and I've always bee happy with the quality of my purchases. I drove up there last Saturday, and the front entrance gate was locked and there was no sign. I got stuck in heavy traffic on the way back to Santa Fe, a long drive for nothing. Nothing about being closed was posted on their web site. I have called several times and emailed with no reply from them. No way to run a business, hence the 1 star rating.

We stopped by here to enjoy the tasting menu of all the wines, bourbons and ports made by this company. It was pretty cold inside and at 2:00 in the afternoon, we were the only ones there. Some music in the background would have been nice but we still had fun. We came home with 4 bottles of port & bourbon !!!

This review is for the tasting room north of Santa Fe. It's best to use GPS to get there or else be prepared to watch carefully for the signs. If you're heading north on NM 84/US 285 from Santa Fe you need to look for the signs that say left on NM 530. You need to be in the left lane so you can make a U-turn at the signal. You then head back south on US 285 for a very short distance. The entrance is on the right immediately before the exit ramp to Los Alamos.
Once inside, we found a large, cool and very pleasant respite from the summer heat. There's a surprisingly vast selection of different wines and spirits, including reds, whites, dessert wines, ports, sherries, at least one brandy, as well as grappa, bourbon, vodka and gin. There were four of us tasting and we all found something we really liked, including a Merlot, a rose dessert wine, a gin and a tawny port. My favorites were the ports, all delicious, as well as a very refreshing citrus gin. I don't usually care for gin but thought this one was excellent. They also have an Anjelica, which is pretty unusual. If I understood correctly, most of the grapes come from southern New Mexico, in Deming. Tasting fee was $5-$6.

My wife and I recently visited New Mexico for a much needed vacation. We spent time in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. When we were in Santa Fe we decided to take a small road trip to Bandalier National Monument and Los Alamos.

On the way back we spotted a sign for the Don Quixote Distillery & Winery and decided to take a stab at finding it. It is off the beaten path and you really have to pay attention to find it. The D.Q Distillery is in a residential neighborhood.

After we found it we pulled into a driveway of a nice looking house. We parked and strolled up to the front door only to find it was closed. Looking through the windows we could see displays of their wine and liquor bottles.

We knocked and looked around for a few minutes before deciding to head on down the road. Both of us wished they were open as it seemed like a great place to do a wine tasting. Maybe next time we are in Santa Fe we will be luckier.

Make sure you check out their website and Facebook page before you take a road trip to this off the beaten path site so you will not be disappointed.

Some friends from out of state and I were riding the Jemez this past September and saw a little sign simply saying 'Don Quixote Distillery' along the side of the road. Without a hesitation, we turned our bikes onto the little road and after a few mis-turns, ended up in the driveway of a lovely house. Not sure what to expect, we climbed off our bikes and strolled into aa small but delightful tasting room. Greeted by a sweet, friendly hostess, we decided on the 5 samples for $5, and began choosing our drinks - wines, spirits, vodka, everything you can hope for, and all came with commentary and suggestions. Not only did we sample wonderful drinks, we learned a lot of the local wine-making history and the story behind Don Quixote Distillery itself! We were all quite pleased with the overall experience - filled our saddle bags with Rio Rojo, Manhattan Project Merlot, and Blue corn Vodka and promised to return next year! (I actually returned a couple weeks later with more guests - this is definitely worth a trip!)

We must've driven by twice before finally stumbling into Don Quixote as the signage is really lacking. Upon arriving we were greated by a lady who I couldn't tell was annoyed or thrilled that we were there. We did a sampler of a handful of wine and spirits and some members really enjoyed it and others couldn't wait to get the heck out of dodge as they got a Hills Have Eyes vibe. I personally really enjoyed their spirits but next time maybe I will stick to just buying a bottle and drinking it at my hotel instead of someone's basement with old stools and a wobbly bar.

This place is a little hidden. You almost feel like you're going through a neighborhood but it's there, I promise! And you won't regret the trip. Everything I tasted was amazing and the people are very knowledgeable and super friendly. And addition to the spirits and wine, they also do various extracts so there really is something for everyone. I bought a couple of bottles to bring home as gifts. Just make sure to follow the signs and don't don't miss the left on Rio Bravo!

This was our first visit to Don Quixote. A really nice big space, a big bar for tasting, and great options - 5 tastes for $5! Really enjoyed their blue corn bourbon, and their grappa and apple brandy were quite good, too. The citrus gin had a very nice mouth. Several enjoyable wines as well - we liked the merlotl. A good discount for a mixed case, and a very friendly server at the bar. Unexpectedly good spirits and wine from Northern New Mexico

As an unplanned stop: A great chance to learn about your favorite drinks and try locallay made products that easily rival the $100+ bottles you can get at booze mega-stores in an atmosphere that betrays the location and atmosphere. Best have a ride home you can fully enjoy the stop.

Once a month they have mixology classes that quickly switch between the history of a drink and how to make it and a hands-on "lab" were you perfect your technique and drink the result during the next "lecture" I've been to multiple and can't wait to do it again.

Food: Exotic chocolates, and snacks. No meal any of the times I've been.
