This is a little, fascinating museum. The exhibits are distributed in two houses. The main house has 4 rooms that describe in great detail the Manhattan Project and the final development of the atomic bombs in Los Alamos. The second house is walking distance from the first one and describes the subsequent cold war and the constant threat of the third world war, the nuclear war. It is fascinating! Both houses were occupied by leading scientists of the Manhattan Project and their families. Dr. Oppenheimer, the director of Los Alamos, and his family lived in one of the houses. The second house shows the bedrooms, bathrooms, living and dinner rooms. They were comfortable houses, functional, and somewhat little in the middle of the forest. They are in very good condition. The second one has an old TV set that shows a film that narrates the tension that the world felt during the cold war times.

I visited the museum for the first time years ago. Years ago only one house, the main one was opened. There was no entrance fee and the place was ran by a lovely, old, elegant man with very long white hair. The house was full of memorabilia including letters, stamps, newspapers, etc! Now, you have to pay a small fee of 5 dollars and who knows where that memorabilia is. Who knows where that elegant, handsome, old man is as well. The place is different now but it is still magical; now it is more organized and it is worth paying the fee. You will learn a lot on one of the most important times of world history!

There is parking in front of the main house. It is easy to park. There is no parking fee.

It is a place that you can visit in a rainy day. It is covered.

Una visita muy pequeña y que ofrece poco en comparación al museo Bradbury a unos 5 minutos caminando. Lo más especial, las casas de Bethe y Oppenheimer.

We went for the shade but learned a lot about the history od the area prior to the lab. There was also lots of information regarding the formation of the lab and how it was kept a secret. The reason thia site was selected. Very informative. The staff were all very courteous.

Nice little museum with lots of info about the building of the town and the building of the bomb. Several things to see spread out over a hundred yards + of walking. We enjoyed the Bethe house and seeing the Oppenheimer place next door. All for a small admission price.

Fantastic museum that encapsulates the history of the early inhabitants of the area through the 20th century with detailed information about the Los Alamos Ranch School and the Manhattan Project.

This should be your first stop in Los Alamos.

Park by the gray concrete sign for the Fuller Lodge. The historic museum is just left of the lodge.

Museum focuses on the Manhattan atomic bomb, the pueblos and Valles Caldera.

$5/pp for the museum entry. $20 for the walking tour/pp.

The small historical museum is behind and beyond the fuller lodge on the campus.

Gives you history of the Pueblo village, homestead, Manhattan bomb, the Cold War and etc.

Would be something to receive an official letter of eviction for a government project and how nice to be given one semester to finish out the school term.

The Ranch school looks like a preparatory school for the Boy Scouts with their uniform and activities.

Anyone with any interest in the history the atomic bomb, the end of World War 2 and the beginning of the Cold War will find this museum and grounds, fascinating. The War Department's seizure the boys school (where the museum is located) for "war time purposes" is kept much as it was in 1943.
Buildings and houses for the scientists, and of course, Robert Oppenheimer and others are preserved from 1943.
Just a walk around the grounds and stop at the small museum and gift shop is worthwhile.

We enjoyed this small museum, learning a lot about the history of this area. It spans the eras of the Ancient Pueblos, early white settlers, the Manhattan Project, and the Los Alamos Laboratory today.

There is also a nice walking tour of the area of town that was originally the boys school and later the Manhattan Project.

It provides a complementary resource to visiting the Manhattan Project National Monument.

Arrived at the museum at 11 AM, not realizing that a tour of the area was just beginning. So glad we didn't miss it. Our guide was great - we spent 2 hours with her explaining the history of Los Alamos from its early beginnings, why the Manhattan Project ended up there, and what is going on today. Could not have asked for a better way to spend the time. Great stories, anecdotes and spy lesson. If you go to Los Alamos make sure to make this your first stop and time your arrival so that you can participate in the tour.
