There honestly wasn’t a lot to see inside here, but there was some interesting information about the history of the revolution

An important part of the Freedom Trail in downtown Boston, the Old State House and Old South Meeting House Museums are well worth visit. Both are well preserved and contain artifacts and interpretive displays. There is a large gift shop and restrooms. The Boston Massacre sight is just out side the State House.

Iconic historic building in the middle of Boston that used to be the seat of governance for Massachusetts - it's the oldest public building in Boston and one of the oldest in the U.S., so expect a lot of crowds (especially as it's a stop on the Freedom Trail). However, it's still absolutely worth a visit. Take one of the very well-organized tours or wander through the building on your own, but come and soak in the history. I've done the tour with friends from out of town, and have wandered through on my own, and both are great. It's initially a bit jarring to explore such a historic building while surrounding by financial buildings and honking cars, the interior feels hushed and surreal.

I'll add that, as the City of Boston took great care to preserve this building as close to its original state as possible, it's not really accessible for wheelchairs or strollers.

Of all the places I wanted to see in Boston, this was the top of my list. It did not disappoint. We spent the morning at the Old South Meeting House and then after lunch spent another few hours here. Reading all of the exhibits and getting more information from the guides that were present in the rooms. Completely lived up to all expectations I had built up.

It's an attractive old colonial building located in the center of the downtown district. Since there are tours and the Freedom Trail is here, expect to be confronted by crowds, even on the weekend when offices are closed.

Another stop along the way during our walk of the Freedom Trail in Boston. The weather had cleared up for a beautiful afternoon and we took photos of the Samuel Adams statue and the Bill Russell statue.

Old State House seems to be a metro station now. Great looking building, though somewhat marred by the constant roar of traffic on the outside. The area need pedestrianizing. Interesting building though.

It is one of the Freedom Trail landmarks in Boston. The Old State House is a wonderful historic building with amazing architecture that dates back to 1713 in downtown Boston. It’s considered the oldest public house in Boston which now serves as a history museum. Must visit place when you visit Boston.

Built in 1712, this building was the seat of colonial government for Massachusetts, but also the earliest seat of government for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts after the Revolution as well. Here the highest courts in the colony met, the Governor had his office and state legislature met. It was the first brick Government structure in Boston and reflects it dual history with one side capped by an eagle, the symbol for the new United States, and the other side capped by the Lion and Unicorn, symbols of Great Britain the Lion for England and Unicorn for Scotland. On the east face, Lion and Unicorn side, there is a small balcony off the Governor's chamber where the Declaration of Independence was first read to the citizens of Boston in 1776.

In the center is a cupola structure that would have provide a good viewpoint of colonial Boston. Today the historic structure is surrounded by modern skyscrapers that obscure it. For me this is the best part of visiting this site. The juxtaposition of the old and the new is so pronounced and surreal.

There is a nominal fee for entrance. However, for me, the interior is well worth the visit due to the history for just the structure itself. There is a great museum here with displays on the first and second floors as well as a gift shop. The second floor also contains the former Governor's office that has be designed as it was around the Revolutionary War. Finally, there is the beautiful spiral staircase in the center that provided access to each. It really is a work of beauty in its own right.

There is so much history that has taken place at this building including the Boston Massacre just outside the east wall of the building. For me this is a Boston MUST SEE, well worth the nominal charge for entrance.
