Right on the Freedom Trail, step back into 18th century America to view graves of Hancock, Revere, Franklin, Adams, and many more. Costumed docents will also give tours.

Important cemetery for many Revolutionary War heroes. It is a stop on the Freedom Trail. The tombstones are interesting to look at with many designs you wouldn't see today.

This small graveyard which is one of the earliest stops on the Freedom Trail is one of the oldest in Boston. Three of the signers of the Declaration of Independence; John Hancock, Sam Adams and Robert Treat Paine are buried here. In addition the victims of the Boston Massacre, Paul Revere, James Otis and Peter Faneuil are buried here as well. A nice visit for 45 minutes or so.

The small graveyard in downtown boston is just fascinating. Sam Adams, John Hancock, and Ben Franklin's parents were all buried here.

Its crazy how many tombstones there are in this graveyard. And they are so close that many are on top of each other. So old, but reading them and the history is so interesting. Ben Franklin's parents are buried here as well as John Hancock.

Seeing Sam Adam's and the Franklin family graves seems surreal, not to mention Mother Goose's grave! A gentleman provided a map of the gravesites, free or for donation.

You can tour this cemetery on your own or if you sign up for the the freedom tour or the ghost tour, you will stop by here. It is fascinating! The history lesson is so informative and eye opening. It is actually very peaceful considering it is on a very busy street.

Can you do gravestone rubbings? My hubby is a HUGE fan of Adams and I know this would be an awesome keepsake to be framed when we return home!

No absolutely no grave rubbing you are not even allowed to walk thru the stones you walk around the paved path, You still can see them all so no worries, worth the trip you won't be sorry.

Is there an index and plot map for locating individuals buried there? I have many ancestors buried there and am limited in my walking. Are there benches for resting?

There isn't an index at the burying ground but you can use the historic burying grounds website to locate specific individuals. There are no benches from my recollection but it isn't a large burying ground.

What time of day do they allow visitors to walk through the graveyard? We walked by this morning around 10:30 and the gates were closed.
