A surprisingly nice beach, easily accessible from the JFK/UMass Redline Stop.
This beach has large facilities for showering, using the restroom and houses a small cantina. They also have lifeguards stationed along the beach. This is more than a lot of beaches.
The beach is sandy and wider than some of the other beaches scattered around Boston. I personally did not swim but I had a friend go in and report back that the beach became a bit muddy in the water.
This was a great spot to just relax for a few hours can get crowded as the day goes on. A popular spot for people to bring volleyball nets and play. Due to its proximity to public transport, it is not a large burden to bring a chair/umbrella etc even if you don't have a car. That being said their are a select few spots in the green spaces that line the beach.

In the midst of all the buildings is Carson beach. Not very crowded during the week. You may have to search to find parking but there is a bunch off the road across the street. Some of the parking may be resident parking so pay attention. No fee. Nice boardwalk to walk on. Good for dogs. Nice place to eat your lunch by the water.

Carson Beach has been around a long time. The snack shack has the best food! Awesome Lobster Rolls!!!!
The beach is usually nice, although parties from the night before can leave broken bottles around. At least use cans! Still a great local beach if you can find a place to park.

Carson beach looked lovely from a distance. Upon closer scrutiny it is fairly dirty, littered with cigarette butts and lots of broken glass despite looking like it had been swept. The sand is hot on the skin and the footing under the water is like mud. Wearing flip flops or better still, rock shoes overcomes a lot of the issues. Also, bring your own shelter. There is some parking and a lifeguard but there are few waves. Was going to stay all day but left after 15 minutes.

A beautiful beach to hang out with friends and family. Good location with parking space around. A lil less on cleanliness but overall 👍

There aren't really any great swimming beaches in Boston, but this one is expansive and offers a lot of space for other beach activities, like walking, finding sea glass, beach volleyball, and laying out in the sun.
If it's warm there are usually plenty of people there in groups or with kids. It's on the border between South Boston and Dorchester, and it's accessible from the Red Line either at Andrew or JFK/UMass. There is also some parking by the beach as well. There is a little concession stand by the beach if you get hungry or thirsty and there are shelters if you want to have a picnic by the water.
If you are dead set on swimming, you need to go further south to find clean water (though it's really not bad at Independence Beach in East Boston), but for other beach activities, this is the best place you will find in the city.

The beach is a bit dirty. But we had a good time with a nice walk alomg the beach. By public transportstion it's not easy to get there.
