Not in the best part of town but more popular than other bars. Big into drag shows which were average at best. However at least there were people there.

Contrary to what you'll read elswehere, it's 2008 and Ramrod is no longer a leather bar at all. It's only busy on Friday nights, and absolutely dead on Saturday.
The management doesn't care about the leather aspect of the place at all, and the stated dress code is never enforced except on certain even nights.
(This is opposed to the 80s and 90s when it was strictly enforiced -- my guess is that it was cheaper to drop the dress code than pay the bouncers.)
The bar is just a sad shadow of it's former self, and definately not a leather bar anymore.

If you like leather, head here on a Friday or Saturday night!! I totally disagree with the other reviewer....not sure if he's looking for something totally different, or was just there on an off night. My first few times there I was treated well by the bartenders & other staff, even without being a regular.

This bar is one nasty place. It is not what it pretends to be. It is the worst of Boston gay life, which is to say it is cliqueish, obnoxious, and self-absorbed. The staff is routinely obnoxious and rude, and appears to play favorites with the regular losers who come here. It is not very clean, and the atmosphere while trying to appear seductive is in fact just cheap and tawdry, much like the regulars and the staff. I do not recommend this bar at all. In fact, any straight bar is more fun than this place, and you'll be more likely to find better action.
