Paula is amazing. Highly recommend this food & history tour. She is fun & her knowledge of north end & Italian culture/history is incredible. The variety of food we ate was delicious. You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I were gifted this tour from our daughter. She and her husband went on a cold, slushy Feb. day and still could not have loved it more. So, when we decided to go on a lovely September day, we knew we were in for a treat. Paula and her tour did not disappoint. Her passion for her neighborhood (North End), food, and the history of her little corner of Boston are obvious immediately. We got to taste the most delicious pizza, arancini, pasta, and much more. It was a delightful way to spend a few hours and I highly recommend everyone to book this tour and forget the world around you and enter into Paula's world. It is a wonderful place to be.

Paula was incredible. She is so knowledgeable and passionate and this comes through on the tour.
My husband and I had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the history and places we visited today. We even went back to Salumeria Italiana to buy some olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. Can't wait to tell our family and friends so they can experience this for themselves!

Who knew that someone could combine a history lesson with great food and wine. But that is exactly what Paula did as our guide. For over 3 hours, Paula delighted us with nuggets of historical significance of the Boston North End, while at the same time taking the group to several food & beverage locations in the North End. As a resident of the North End for over two decades, Paula knows the area quite well, and has established a great relationship with the owners of several establishments in the area. Some of the local cuisines we got to sample included pizza, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, cheese, wine, pasta, sfogliatella (yes that spelling is correct), cannoli and gelato. You won't go home hungry (and you probably won't need to eat dinner later in the day). This tour is well worth the cost - ENJOY!

Had the pleasure of being on Paula’s food / history tour through the North End during a recent weekend trip to Boston. We were visiting from Florida for a concert.. Paula’s tour was the best part of our trip (and we pretty much did it all in Boston)
Paula is such a wonderful, delightful person! She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Italian culture and food, specifically that charming little area of Boston. We learned so much from her! And it’s obvious from the local business owners that she is a beloved member of that community. We visited so many awesome spots that we wouldn’t have known to go to (as a visiting tourist). All the food from each place was amazing, from the pizza, pasta, wine, Sfogliatella, cannolis, Italian market delicacies. She has the tour so thoughtfully planned out and organized that we were having some eats here, some there, walking, talking; we never felt too full along the way so we could enjoy each thing.. in the end of tour, we left with completely satisfied, full bellies! This is not your average tour, it’s one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experience that I highly recommend. I came home and bragged about Paula’s tour so much that my husband and kids want to take trip to Boston just do it! So we will be returning hopefully some time within the year. Thank you Paula for your kindness and just being a great human!!

This tour was fantastic…Paula is an exceptional guide. It’s almost not enough to call it a food tour…it was also a great history tour and wine tour. Would recommend without hesitation, the stops were all excellent.

This tour is quite unlike any other I’ve experienced. Paula takes you on a journey not just of the North End streets and the exceptional Italian cuisine there, but a journey of the historical social experience of those that have lived, and now live, there. She comes at this by weaving her personal experience - having worked and lived there for decades - with extensive research into the history and culture of Italy. Then she stitches it all together with the common thread – Italian food. She’ll walk you past the long lines of tourists waiting to eat cannolis at the more well-known places, to a smaller unassuming place with better cannolis – the ones the locals eat. Along the way she’ll tell you entertaining and funny stories of her life there and does so with reverence for the people she loves so much. By the end of it you feel like good friends, and you’re thinking about the next time you visit Boston and how you’ll do the whole thing all over again. There are other tour guides and I’m sure some are very good, but not like this.

Highest recommendation warranted here for Off the Eaten Path Food tours! I have been on my share of tours and this one is definitely a crowd pleaser. Our out of town guests were blown away. I am from here and I will come again. We had pizza, arancini, bowl full of rigatoni, Caprese salad and some amazing sauce, cheese, tastings of balsamic, olive oil, cheese and of course wine (lessons in wine) and gelato, and cannoli.. and sale Marino… don’t make dinner tonight! All along we learned about Boston’s culture and urban renewal and history. Paula, a long time North Ender is throughly well suited for this job of guiding you up and down the narrow streets and some alleys. You will feel like a local when you are finished.

Hands down THE ABSOLUTE BEST tour in Boston! Bring your appetite for not just food, but a really cool history lesson filled with fun facts about Boston’s North End, how it has evolved and where the roots that have settled here came from. Paula has done an amazing job and puts incredible thought into the tour. She’s engaging and captivating and knows EVERYONE! So fun to see the interactions and feeling like a VIP never waiting in line for some of the best eateries in Boston!

Is there enough non-sweets to sample? I'm not against sweets, but I've been on food tours that are mostly sweets and after a while it gets a bit too much when your primary food for the afternoon is baked goods and chocolate.

Absolutely, the tour ends with gelato and espresso. All the other stops are savory items. This is a really well curated tour that is purposeful in its destinations. You won't be overwhelmed with any one type of food.

What’s the pace of the walking part of the tour? We have a slow walker due to surgery. Is this still an option for us?

Yes. Very relaxed pace. Lots of stops. Only two sit downs so you have to be able to stand for a fair time.

We like to park at International Place. After 5 and on weekends, with a coupon from their website, it's only $7. It's a pleasant 15-minute walk to the North End through the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

The "Off the Eaten Path" tour does not duplicate the Freedom Trail. On our tour, we crossed the trail a few times, but the information from our guide actually helped us know what to do if we wanted to walk the Freedom Trail. You get to see and experience part of the North End that you would never have a chance to do if you do not go on this tour. It is a must do. Everyone in our group agreed.
